Nigeria international Tosin Demehin’s journey from Rivers Angels to her first professional deal with Stade Reims in France in 2022, and now to Galatasaray, has been filled with challenges, triumphs, and growth.

Her experience at one of Turkey’s most renowned clubs, coupled with her status as the only Nigerian woman playing in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage, showcases her dedication to reaching the highest levels of football.

With her father’s guidance, her ambitions for personal and team success, and her ever-growing passion for football, the 22-year-old is poised to make a lasting impact both at club level and on the international stage.

Additionally, the excitement of becoming a teammate to Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, the 2023 African Player of the Year, adds an inspiring new dimension to her career.

Adapting to Life in Turkey and Galatasaray

For Tosin Demehin, adapting to a new environment is simply part of her journey as a professional footballer. Having joined Galatasaray, a club with a rich footballing history, Tosin has embraced the transition and quickly settled into her new life in Turkey.

“I believe transition is part of my career path as a footballer who still has a long way to go,” Demehin told SportsBoom.com. “So anywhere I find myself, I get settled and adapt to the environment.” Her seamless adjustment to the new club is a testament to her professional mindset and ability to thrive in new surroundings.

Life in Turkey has been a positive experience for Tosin, both on and off the pitch. She is grateful for the warm reception from the Turkish people, describing them as welcoming and friendly. “Turkey is a great place, and the people here are incredibly kind,” Tosin shares. “It’s nice to be around such a supportive and vibrant community.” This welcoming atmosphere has made her feel at home, allowing her to focus on her football while also enjoying her new surroundings.

Representing Galatasaray, one of the most renowned clubs in Turkish football, has been a dream for Tosin. “I feel blessed and happy to be here with my new family,” she says. “I am excited to contribute positively to the growth of the women’s team and to create more history here.” Tosin’s passion for the club and its future is evident as she looks forward to helping the team achieve greater success in the league and beyond.

Champions League Experience: A Dream Realized

For many players, competing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League is the pinnacle of their careers, and Tosin is no exception. Her first experience in Europe’s top-tier club competition has been nothing short of a dream come true.

“Playing in the Champions League has always been my goal, and experiencing it feels like a dream come true,” she says. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity.” Tosin’s Champions League debut represents not just a personal achievement but a milestone in her ongoing journey toward becoming one of the best defenders in the game.

Competing in such a prestigious tournament has had a profound impact on Tosin’s development as a player. Facing some of the best teams and players in the world has pushed her to elevate her game.

“Competing at this level has given me the chance to play against some of the best players in the world, and it has made me want to improve and work even harder on myself,” Tosin explains. The experience has sharpened her skills, expanded her tactical understanding, and fueled her ambition to reach new heights in her career.

WAFCON 2024: Reclaiming Glory for the Super Falcons

As an integral member of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, Tosin understands the significance of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), one of the most prestigious tournaments in African women’s football.

“WAFCON is extremely important, not just to me but to the entire continent,” she says. “I am eager to be part of the tournament and experience playing on that stage for the first time.” The tournament holds great pride for the Super Falcons, and Tosin is determined to help her team return to its dominant position in African football.

Looking ahead to WAFCON 2024, Tosin’s goals are clear: to help the Super Falcons reclaim their title and once again establish Nigeria as the dominant force in African football. “My personal goal for WAFCON 2024 is for the team to have an outstanding tournament and to reclaim our glory,” she says.

“We want to dominate African women’s football again, and I’m committed to helping us get there.” Tosin’s confidence in the team’s potential is unwavering, and she is ready to take on the challenge of ensuring Nigeria's continued success in African football.

Although the road to reclaiming the title will be challenging, Tosin believes that proper preparation is key to the team’s success. “It will be a tough one, and the group is tricky, but we keep learning and improving,” she says. “With proper training facilities, good camping, and continuous improvement in every aspect of the game, we can get better and regain our dominance.”

Personal and Career Goals: A Legacy in the Making

Tosin credits her father as her biggest influence in football, acknowledging his immense support throughout her career. “My dad has been a huge influence,” Tosin reflects.

“He played a big role in making sure I had the right support, and his advice has been invaluable in helping me get through the challenges I’ve faced.” Her father’s encouragement and guidance have been key factors in Tosin’s growth as both a person and a player.

As Tosin continues to evolve on the field, she remains focused on improving every aspect of her game. “I am focused on improving in every area of my game,” she says.

“I want to be the best and most outstanding player in my generation.” This dedication to self-improvement drives Demehin to work tirelessly to refine her skills, with the aim of becoming a standout figure in the world of women’s football.
