Johnson may be averaging 19.4 points, the best of his career thus far, but it is not enough to win games week in and week out.

D’Angelo Russell was recently traded to the Nets once again after a multi-year spell with the Los Angeles Lakers and has made an impressive impact in Brooklyn. He is posting 14.9 points per game, a statistic that isn’t quite the level from previous seasons but is stepping up to the plate in assists. He is averaging a record high of 7.4 per game on the east coast, a massive rise from the 4.7 that he was posting in downtown Los Angeles.

The Miami Heat’s record is currently exactly at .500 for the season as the Florida-based team sits seventh in the East. The organization has moved in and out of the final few playoff spots in recent weeks and appears to be in safe hands for sealing a spot later in the season. There is quite a gap between the teams above and below them. The Heat will hope to finish the season above .500 though, to further solidify their playoff push. 

Heats’ point guard Tyler Herro is currently finding his groove in his sixth season in the NBA, averaging 24.1 points per game, a significant improvement from previous seasons. His stats awarded him with an All-Star selection, further highlighting his significant contribution to the south coast too. Herro’s overall 2024/25 stat line is 24.1, 5.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists, signalling improvements in every area. 

The Heat need one of their star players Bam Adebayo to step up on offence as the 27-year-old centre is posting only 15.9 points per game. This is a significant decrease from 19.3 and 20.4 points from the previous two years, but his work in defense is of huge significance. Adebayo is averaging 9.9 rebounds per game, statistics he can be happy with as that aligns with his best attributes on the court.

  1. D’Angelo Russell: Over 10 Points and Over 5 Assists: Historically D’Angelo Russell averages 13.6 points and 5.2 assists across 20 previous games against the Miami Heat. On Christmas Day, he posted 22 points and over five assists in that clash. His scoring sometimes is a bit amiss in previous games, therefore, our valued bet sees him scoring over 10 points. He could be a big help to the roster to try and prevail. 

  2. Bam Adebayo: Over 15 Points and Over 10 Rebounds: Bam Adebayo’s recent form against the Nets is superb, averaging 18.4 points and 12.8 rebounds in his last five games. We expect him to continue this trend, having played his part in their win a couple of weeks previously. He posted 17 points and 16 rebounds and certainly will be looking to complete a replicate performance for this rematch.

Prediction: Miami Heat to win
