Senuran Muthusamy played a brilliant cameo at the back end to fire the Pretoria Capitals to victory over MI Cape Town on Saturday and keep their hopes of a playoff berth alive.

The allrounder batted with power and innovation to score an unbeaten 38 off 18 balls as the Capitals beat MI Cape Town by four wickets and with two balls to spare at Newlands in Cape Town.

The Capitals moved into fourth position on the log with the victory, eliminating MI Cape Town in the process. However, they now have to wait for the result of the match between the Joburg Super Kings and the Durban Super Giants later on Saturday to see if they will qualify for the Eliminator match.

If the Super Kings win, they will qualify for the match. However, a Super Giants win will see the Capitals take on the Paarl Royals, who already have a lock on third place.

At Newlands, MI Cape Town managed what looked like a below par 163/9 after they couldn't capitalise on a decent start.

Ryan Rickelton (35 off 24) and Rassie van der Dussen (60 off 46) again got the home side off to a very good start. However, their middle order didn't come to the party at home, with only captain Kieron Pollard (30 off 16 balls) getting into double figures as far as the res of the batting line-up is concerned.

The Pretoria Capitals lost their star players Phil Salt and Will Jacks early during their reply, but Kyle Verreynne (34 off 22 balls) and Theunis de Bruyn (42 off 33 balls) steadied the ship.

There was still some work to do when Muthusamy entered the fray, and he played a gem of an innings, scoring all around the wicket before he and captain Wayne Parnell got them over the line.
