When is the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup?
The best cricket players from around the globe are convening for another edition of the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, but when is the tournament, and where is it being held?
The ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup is a month-long tournament from 1 to 29 June 2024. The tournament will take place in the Americas, across seven countries.
The showpiece event is scheduled to be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States. Fifty-five matches will be played in the southern states of the USA and across six Caribbean islands.
The 2024 World Cup is the ninth edition of the international Twenty20 (T20I) competition. This will be the first-ever major global cricket tournament played in North America as the International Cricket Council (ICC) looks to expand the sport's appeal in new markets.
Only the West Indies has previously hosted international limited-overs cricket World Cups in the Americas. The opening match is between the United States and Canada at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas, Texas, on 1 June 2024.
The Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, will host the final on June 29, 2024. This edition of the World Cup looks set to be as thrilling and unpredictable as ever.
Former T20 world champions Yuvraj Singh (India) and Chris Gayle (West Indies), and Jamaican Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt, were named as the ambassadors of the tournament. The tournament's official theme song, "Out of this World" features Sean Paul and Kes. It was released on May 2, 2024.

What is the 2024 ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup?
The 2024 Men's World Cup is a biennial Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket tournament. The T20 World Cup is contested by men's national teams and organised by the International Cricket Council.
Twenty20 cricket is the most popular format of the game and the quickest. The T20 World Cup is every two years, while the 50-over World Cup is a quadrennial competition.
The longer limited-overs format of the sport allows for fewer countries to participate. But as the ICC expands the T20 World Cup, there is room for more countries and expanding the sport outside of its historical and traditional markets.
The latest tournament will be contested by a record 20 countries, an increase of four from 16 in Australia in 2022. The tournament includes the two hosts, USA, and West Indies, and the top eight countries from down under.
Two more nations automatically qualified because of their position on the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings. The last eight teams to qualify were decided by regional continental qualifiers.

Which teams qualified for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup?
Twenty teams qualified for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup, with the West Indies and United States qualifying automatically as co-hosts, the second time the tournament has had dual hosts.
This year's edition in the Americas is the biggest tournament, with three countries making their Twenty20 World Cup debuts.
Canada and Uganda qualified for the men's World Cup for the first time, while co-host America, is also making their tournament debut.
England are the defending champions, having defeated Pakistan in the final down under. India, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands all qualified because they finished in the top eight of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh qualified through the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings. Ireland and Scotland made it to the tournament through the Europe Qualifiers.
Ireland, the most successful Associate cricket nation, is playing in their seventh ICC T20 World Cup. Scotland will play in their sixth T20 World Cup, meaning three teams from the British Isles will participate in the States and the Caribbean islands.

Papua New Guinea, who participated in the 2021 T20 World Cup, came out of the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier. Canada's debut inclusion came through the Americas Qualifier.
Nepal and Oman qualified as the Asia Qualifiers, and Namibia and Uganda the Africa Qualifiers. Nepal, like Papua New Guinea, is also playing in only their second only ICC Cricket World Cup tournament, having qualified for the 2014 T20 World cup in Bangladesh.
Oman will be playing in their third official limited-overs World Cup. Oman previously qualified for the 2016 T20 World Cup in India, followed by the 2021 T20 World Cup, which they co-hosted with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This will also be Namibia's third T20 World Cup. The south-west African nation previously participated in Oman and UAE in 2021 and Australia in 2022. Despite the failure of Zimbabwe and Kenya to qualify for the competition, there will be three African nations at the Twenty20 cricket extravaganza.
What is the Format for the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup?
The format for the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup has the 20 countries divided into four groups of five teams. The top two nations in each group will advance to the Super 8 round. From here, the group-stage qualifying teams will be split into two groups of four.
From here, top two countries from each group will then qualify for the knockout stage. There will be no quarter-finals at this edition of the Twenty20 Cricket World Cup.
Instead, the knockout stage of this year's tournament in the Americas will consist of two semi-finals and a final.

Who has won the most ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup tournaments?
The West Indies and England have won the most T20 World Cups, claiming the ultimate prize twice each. England won the 2010 and 2022 T20 Men's Cricket World Cups, and the Windies won in 2012 and 2016. Australia won the last tournament, their first.
South Africa hosted the first Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup tournament in 2007. England, the West Indies, and Sri Lanka hosted in 2009, 2010 and 2012, respectively. Bangladesh hosted the tournament in 2014, while India hosted the tournament in 2016.
There was a five-year hiatus because of other ICC global events and the Covid-19 pandemic. India won the rights to host the 2021 edition, but because of Covid, the tournament was co-hosted by Oman and the UAE.

Australia hosted the last Twenty20 World Cup in 2022. No host-nation has ever won the competition, though. Of the eight editions of the ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup, only England and the West Indies have won the competition twice.
India won the inaugural tournament in South Africa. Pakistan, England, West Indies, and Sri Lanka won the following events.
South Africa, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, and Bangladesh are the only traditional Full- and non-Full member nations who have not won the T20 World Cup.
