Royale Union Saint-Gilloise star Mohammed Gadafi Fuseini shares insights on the team's historic Belgian title win, their UEFA Champions League aspirations, and his personal performance under manager Sebastien Pocognoli.

Fuseini reflects on the significance of this achievement, ending a decades-long wait for the title since 1935, and expresses his thoughts on the team's future and his own plans.

For loyal Union Saint-Gilloise fans in Brussels, witnessing their beloved club's historic 12th title win is a dream come true.

After decades of agony, Pocognoli and his team have shattered the 90-year drought, bringing glory to the Joseph Marien Stadium.

Ghanaian international, Fuseini, 23, will cherish this moment forever, a highlight in his career that will remain etched in his memory even after leaving Belgium.

A FULFILLED SEASON

Indeed, 2024/25 has been an extraordinary season for Les Unionistes, bringing smiles to fans' faces in Brussels. Pocognoli's men are basking in the glory of their achievement.

The impact of Tony Bloom's investment is evident, transforming the club since their 2021 top-flight return after 48 years.

Building on their impressive finishes in 2022 and 2023, Union SG's title ambitions finally came to fruition this season. For Fuseini, a key player under Pocognoli, it's been a fulfilling season.

"It's a great season for each one of us. We have to fight to the end, and that's what defines us as players. Everyone deserves to celebrate, especially the fans who've always supported us," Fuseini told SportsBoom.com.

Though Brussels was initially subdued after the championship win over Gent, the city has erupted in celebration, welcoming their 12th Belgian Pro League title.

FUSEINI: POCOGNOLI'S WEAPON

Though new centre-forward Franjo Ivanovic and Canadian star Promise David have been standout performers this season under Pocognoli, Fuseini's capture from Sturm Graz has been a blessing for Les Unionistes.

He’s blossomed into one of the Belgian top-flight's most efficient attackers, pivotal in his team’s attacking dynamism and goal-scoring prowess.

Fuseini's pace, dribbling, and spatial awareness create scoring opportunities for teammates. His ability to weave through opponents' defenses has made him a fan favorite in Brussels.

With 11 goals and 3 assists across all competitions, Fuseini's goal contributions total 14, only surpassed by Ivanovic and David.

"I feel excited to be here at this time. It's an honour to play for one of the best and oldest teams in Belgium," he said.

"The football culture here is incredibly welcoming. The fans love us for who we are, and all they want is results – which we've delivered."

"Everyone's been fantastic, and that motivation has driven us. I have huge respect for my teammates; we won together as a unit. Every position, from goalkeeper to striker, played a vital role. That's why we're celebrating today, not just as a club but with our fans in Brussels and beyond."

A MOVE AWAY?

Despite rumours linking him to top clubs like Ajax and Lazio according to SportBoom.com close sources, Fuseini remains focused on the upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign.

"Nothing's distracting me. My goal is to help my club excel in Europe and perform well domestically. Retaining our title would be amazing," he said with determination.

With his current form at the Joseph Marien Stadium, and two years left on his contract, Fuseini's departure seems unlikely, especially with the Champions League on the horizon.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BOUND FUSEINI

With Europe's top leagues settled, Fuseini and his teammates are aware of the monumental task ahead, facing giants like Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich, among others, in the upcoming UEFA Champions League, although the draw is yet to determine their exact opponents.

"It won't be easy, but we're ready for the challenge. We crave top competitions like this. I'm proud to have helped my club qualify," he concluded.

However, Brussels fans face a significant concern: despite qualifying for Champions League football, infrastructure remains a hurdle.

Joseph Marien Stadium falls short of UCL standards, highlighting the challenge the club and city must overcome as they reach for European glory.
