As TP Mazembe prepares to embark on their CAF Champions League campaign, the Congolese giants are poised to redeem themselves after a nine-year drought without a Champions League trophy.

Their journey begins later this month with a highly anticipated clash against Algerian side MC Algiers.

    Last season's Champions League woe

Last season's semifinal exit at the hands of Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly still lingers, but former Mazembe star Austin Oladapo is optimistic about his former team's chances. Oladapo, who was part of the squad that fell short against Al Ahly, believes Mazembe has the mettle to make a deep run in the competition.

    A legacy of success

"For me, I think TP Mazembe is a very big club, and they have been in this Champions League and have won it over and over again," Oladapo told SportsBoom.com. "They aren't new in the game; I think they are going to go far because last season they got to the semifinal when I was there, and it was a very good experience."

    A Test of Character

The upcoming match against MC Algiers promises to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams boasting impressive credentials. Oladapo acknowledged the challenge but expressed faith in Mazembe's ability to rise to the occasion. "It may be a very difficult game because MC Algiers are a tough side, but Mazembe is equal to the task and will scale through."

    Preparation is Key

When asked about Mazembe's preparation for the upcoming campaign, Oladapo emphasized the importance of adequate preparation. "Preparation is key in any competition, and I think Mazembe has been preparing well. They have a good team, and they have been working hard."

    A group open to anybody

As Mazembe navigates the Champions League landscape, Oladapo's words serve as a reminder of the team's potential. With their experience, skill, and determination, the Ravens are poised to make a statement in the competition.

"The group is open to anybody, and I don't think there will be upsets," Oladapo noted. "You can start deciding how the group will form after the first group game against MC Algiers, but for now, every team is a good team."

    A Word of caution

While Oladapo is optimistic about Mazembe's chances, he also cautioned: "In the Champions League, you can't underrate any team. Every team is a good team, and you have to be at your best to win."

    A Message of Good Luck

As TP Mazembe embarks on their Champions League journey, they carry the weight of expectation. With Oladapo's endorsement and their own rich history, the Congolese giants are ready to take on the best of African football.

"I wish TP Mazembe good luck in their Champions League campaign," Oladapo concluded. They have what it takes to go all the way and win the competition.
