Exclusive: Guirassy Proves Himself A Strong Force in Europe And Africa - Jonathan Akpoborie

Guirassy's exceptional performance in the German league has made him a top striker in European football, with 32 goals in 2024. Former Stuttgart legend Akpoborie praises Guirassy's skill but laments his departure to Dortmund. Guinea's AFCON qualification loss doesn't diminish Guirassy's quality, setting him up for future success.

Seydou Guirassy's remarkable performance in the German league has caught the attention of football enthusiasts worldwide.

With over 32 goals scored in the 2024 calendar year for both Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund, Guirassy has solidified his position as a top striker in European football.

His impressive 28 goals for Stuttgart in the 2023/2024 season played a pivotal role in the team's second-place finish behind Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. This achievement showcases Guirassy's exceptional skill and dedication to his craft.

As a Guinean, Guirassy is also a strong contender for the prestigious CAF awards, having made the top five finalists. His outstanding performance has earned him recognition, across Europe’s top five leagues.

Jonathan Akpoborie, former Stuttgart legend and UEFA Cup finalist, shared his insights on Guirassy's exploits in the German league. "Guirassy's investment in Stuttgart is a testament to his high quality," Akpoborie told SportsBoom.com.

"He has consistently demonstrated his ability to deliver under pressure, and his goals have been crucial to Stuttgart's success."

I wish he stayed at Stuttgart

Meanwhile, Akpoborie bemoaned the departure of Guirassy and how it is affecting the performance of Stuttgart in the current season. The former striker emphasized that he would have loved Guirassy to stay with Stuttgart this season but it seems he wanted something more.

Stutgard who finished second last season is currently in the 11th position in the Bundesliga. They haven't won their last three games before the international break. Meanwhile, in the Bundesliga, they struggled to defeat Keil last October.

“When a player (Guirassy) is leaving a team like Stuttgart now, for sporting reasons, you don't really grudge the player because obviously, he wants to play elite football. Although, Stuttgart now is an elite football team, and they are in the Champions League," explained Akpoborie.

"It is always very good when you see that the player desires to go to another club, you have to sell, the player has to feel comfortable from outside of the pitch. If not, you can't expect him to feel comfortable in the pitch. It is very difficult.

"I wish he stayed because his goals were actually important for Stuttgart last season, but now they have to bring someone else who would cap in those goals because they need those goals.”

    Guinea’s AFCON qualification woes

Unfortunately, Guirassy, the highest goal scorer at the qualifiers with five goals, couldn't put the Elephants on his wings during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, which they lost to Tanzania by a lone goal.

According to Akpoborie, Guirassy's failure doesn't undermine his quality but builds him up for a greater challenge.
