    Zaidu Sanusi, Fc Porto

After months of pain, patience, and perseverance, Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi has finally returned to action for FC Porto.

The Nigerian full-back made his comeback in a heated encounter against Sporting Lisbon last week, marking an emotional moment after a long injury layoff. However, despite being fit again, he remained an unused substitute in Porto’s last league game against Nacional.

In this exclusive interview, Sanusi shares the emotional rollercoaster of his recovery, the mental battles he fought, and his ambitions for the rest of the season as Porto fights for silverware.

"It Felt Like a Dream" – The Moment of Return

For a footballer, few things are more frustrating than watching from the sidelines. For Sanusi, stepping back onto the pitch in such a high-stakes game against Sporting felt surreal.

"It felt like a dream," he said with a smile.

"I had been waiting for that moment for so long. To play again in such a big game was special. The atmosphere, the fans, and my teammates; it was an emotional moment for me."

Despite the excitement, he admitted that it wasn’t easy getting back into the rhythm of competitive football.

"Of course, after being out for months, your body needs time to adapt. But I felt strong, and I was ready to give my all," he told SportsBoom.com.

The Toughest Part? "Staying Mentally Strong"

Recovering from a long-term injury is as much a mental battle as it is a physical one. When asked about the hardest part of his recovery process, Sanusi didn't hesitate.

"The toughest part was staying mentally strong," he admitted. "There were days when I felt frustrated, days when I asked myself, ‘When will I play again?’ But I never lost faith."

He credited his support system for helping him through the difficult period. "My family, my teammates, and the club’s medical staff were amazing. They kept me motivated every single day."

Porto Fans: "Their Support Meant Everything"

Throughout his absence, Porto fans eagerly awaited his return. Their unwavering support played a crucial role in his recovery process.

"The fans have been incredible," Sanusi acknowledged. "Even when I wasn’t playing, I felt their support. That pushed me to work even harder to come back stronger."

When asked what message he had for them, his response was heartfelt: "I just want to say thank you. Your support means everything to me, and I promise to give my best for this club every time I step on the pitch."

Fighting for His Place and Porto’s Title Hopes

With his return, competition for places in Vítor Bruno's squad has intensified. But Sanusi is ready to fight for his spot.

"At a club like Porto, competition is normal. It makes everyone better. My focus is on working hard, giving my best in training, and helping the team however I can."

As Porto battles for domestic and European success, Sanusi’s comeback couldn’t have come at a better time.

"We have big goals this season," he stated confidently. "Porto always plays to win trophies, and I want to be part of that journey. Whether I’m starting or coming off the bench, I’ll be ready when the team needs me."

Looking Ahead: "I’m Just Getting Started"

While he may have missed a significant part of the season, Sanusi remains optimistic about what lies ahead.

"This is just the beginning for me," he said with determination. "I’ve worked too hard to be back, and now I want to enjoy my football and help Porto achieve great things."

For Porto fans and Nigerian football lovers, seeing Zaidu Sanusi back on the pitch is a welcome sight. And if his words are anything to go by, the best is yet to come.
