Field goals are game changers, when factored in the grand scheme of things in the National Football League. Sometimes, the small margins that decide a victory or loss in a NFL game comes down to successful conversions by the NFL kickers.
They may not be out on the field as much as their other teammates on the roster, but their benefaction is crucial in the subjugation of opposing teams. Although they may bear the brunt of jokes in the locker room, NFL kickers are hot commodities for a franchisee’s success in the NFL

The above list of the NFL’s all-time leading points scorers shows how consequential kickers are. Morten Andersen is already an inductee in the Pro Football hall of fame, while Adam Vinatieri is an odd on favorite to join him with his eligibility, commencing in 2025.

NFL Record for the Most Consecutive Field Goals Made

As evidenced above, Adam Vinatieri holds the record for the most consecutive field goals in the regular season. Vinatieri spent his first 10 years playing for the New England Patriots, where he won three Super Bowl Rings. He later joined the Indianapolis Colts where he won another Super Bowl ring. However, it is when still a member of the latter franchise, that the 52-year old set the record for the most consecutive field goals between 2015 and 2016.
n those two seasons with the Colts, Vinatieri made 44 straight field goals. Vinatieri holds the NFL records for field goals made with (599), postseason points with (238), and overtime field goals made with (12). Vinatieri has the most Super Bowl wins for a kicker and he is also the only player to score 1,000 points for two different franchises.
His game-winning kick in the final seconds of Super Bowl XXXVI earned the Patriots their first championship. He would again convert a final-second kick to win Super Bowl XXXVIII, thus establishing himself as a key contributor of the Patriots' dynasty. Vinatieri was named in the National Football League 100th Anniversary All-Time Team in 2019, before finally closing the curtain on his illustrious career in 2020 after 24 seasons on the gridiron.

Contrary, Gary Anderson holds the record for the most consecutive field goals for both the regular season and post-season, combined. The 65-year-old, who is also the first South African to appear in the NFL, represented the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburg Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings and the Tennessee Titans.
His tenure with Vikings in 1998 saw him become the first NFL kicker to convert every field goal and extra point in the regular season. Anderson earned four Pro Bowl and two first team All-Pro honors. He was also named in the NFL's second All-Decade teams of the 1980s and 1990s, as well as in the Steelers All-Time Team.

Canadian Mike Vanderjagt’s, who played nine seasons in the NFL, enjoyed a landmark year in 2003 as a placekicker for the Indianapolis Colts. That year saw him become the first kicker to convert every field goal and point after touchdown attempt, during both the regular season and in the playoffs. This catapulted his record to 42, two positions behind Vinatieri’s benchmark.
Brandon Aubrey, 28-year old first-year placekicker, converted 35 consecutive field goal attempts for the Dallas Cowboys in 2023. He set an NFL record for most consecutive field goals made by a kicker to start a rookie season. His streak came to an end in a game against the Washington Commanders on January 7th 2024.
