The Caribbean Premier League is gearing up for its 13th edition, and SportsBoom has all bases covered.

Bigger and better with more regional talent coming to the fore, the IPL-style league also features ample international stars.

The high-octane T20 cricket tournament gets underway on August 14, with six teams competing in a total of 34 matches.

The tournament wraps up on September 21, and it will be fascinating to see how the Saint Lucia Kings fare with their title defence.

Will the Kings rule the roost once again, or will another franchise make history at the Providence Stadium?

SportsBoom will be with you every step of the way, and we’ve given you the full lowdown on the teams, venues, and tournament format.

CPL 2025 Teams and Captains

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons

Captain – Shakib Al Hasan

One of the more unheralded teams, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are searching for their first CPL title. However, they have assembled a strong bowling attack this year. The local contingent has been bolstered through the acquisitions of Obed McCoy and Rahkeem Cornwall, who are renowned for their wicket-taking ability.

Spearheaded by spin bowler and Bangladesh legend Shakib Al Hasan, his vast T20 experience will be invaluable.

Barbados Royals

Captain – Rovman Powell

After reaching the play-offs last year, the Barbados Royals will look to go one better this term. With formidable firepower at the top and middle of the order, they seem to have a well-balanced squad.

Brandon King and Quinton de Kock give the Royals some stardust, while captain Rovman Powell can also contribute big with the bat.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

Captain – Imran Tahir

2024 finalists, the Guyana Amazon Warriors return with a familiar core, but they have added some world-class talent to their squad, including Moeen Ali.

Veteran Imran Tahir, who became the first overseas player to reach 100 CPL wickets, will lead the charge, and his tactical acumen will be critical to his side’s chance of success.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

Captain – Andre Fletcher

The 2021 champions are looking to scale the heights once again, but last year, they finished rock bottom in the group stage.

Skippered by Andre Fletcher, who is second on the all-time list of leading CPL run scorers (3,135 runs and counting), STKNP have added firepower to their squad, while spin bowling all-rounders Jyd Goolie and Navin Bidaisse add some depth.

Saint Lucia Kings

Captain – Tim David

A burden of expectation will be placed on the reigning champions, but they will be bereft of Faf du Plessis, who steered them to a maiden title last year.
Succeeding the inspirational South African is Tim David, a former IPL winner, who could be a godsend for the Kings.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Captain – Kieron Pollard

The most successful franchise in CPL history, with three titles to their name, the Trinbago Knight Riders lost out in an eliminator last season, but the backbone of their squad has remained.

Captained by Kieron Pollard, who has masterminded multiple title triumphs, he is explosive with the bat.

Caribbean Premier League Format and Schedule Overview

The 2025 edition of the Caribbean Premier League adopts a double round-robin format, with each franchise playing 10 league matches.

After that, the top four teams qualify for the play-offs, and there will be two Eliminator games that will determine which teams face off in the final.

Spread across six main venues, each CPL franchise will have a designated home ground where they will play most of their matches.

The majority of matches will be held at the Providence Stadium, Guayana (nine), which will stage all eliminator and qualifier games as well as the final on September 21.

Warner Park and the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium are set to host five CPL matches apiece during the campaign.

CPL 2025 Latest News and Highlights

Among the major talking points leading into the 2025 CPL edition was the Trinbago Knight Riders appointing former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo as their new head coach, replacing Phil Simmons.

Bravo, who played 107 matches during an 11-year playing spell in the CPL, previously held down positions as an IPL bowling consultant for the Chennai Super Kings as well as a mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

There was one noticeable change for reigning champions St Lucia Kings, who have bid farewell to captain Faf du Plessis, who has decided to focus his efforts on the new Hundred season.

Guyana Amazon Warriors, meanwhile, retained many of the key stars, including Shimron Hetmyer and Romario Shepherd, but they added some experience to their ranks, acquiring Moeen Ali and New Zealander batter Glenn Phillips during the draft.

Elsewhere, Jason Holder ended his 13-year association with the Barbados Royals to sign for the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. For STKNP, it was a busy trading period as they brought in middle-order batter Alick Athanaze and offloaded Sherfane Rutherford to the Royals.

Johnson Charles remains the CPL’s all-time leading run scorer in the CPL, with 3,307 runs to his name
