Stormers Coach Dobson Addresses Kolisi's Potential Return
Speculation around Siya Kolisi's potential return to the Stormers has sparked conversation ahead of the clash with the Sharks. Stormers coach John Dobson emphasized respect and transparency in any negotiations, highlighting the need to honor existing contracts. Kolisi's desire for a move back to Cape Town has excited fans, but the decision ultimately lies with him and the Sharks.

Former Stormer Siya Kolisi vs Hurricanes
Ahead of the highly anticipated clash between the Stormers and Sharks at DHL Stadium on Saturday, speculation around Siya Kolisi's potential return to Cape Town has sparked conversation. The Sharks captain, who recently suffered a calf strain in training but has since been named in the matchday squad, has reportedly expressed interest in a move back to the Stormers to be closer to his family.
Stormers coach John Dobson addressed the rumors during a press briefing, emphasizing the need for respect and transparency in any potential negotiations.
Respecting Contracts and Relationships
Dobson was clear about the Stormers’ stance on the matter:
"If you are in negotiations about something and then prematurely announce it, it could be detrimental. It’s out there that Siya might be interested in a move back, and that’s something we would entertain. But he is under contract with the Sharks, and we respect that."
He continued:
"We didn’t approach Siya. We have a great relationship with the Sharks, and this is up to him and the Sharks. If Siya decides he wants to join us, that’s the first step. But as of now, it’s a matter of respecting his current commitments."
A History of Welcoming Returns
Dobson has a track record of welcoming players back to the Stormers setup, including notable names like Deon Fourie, Warrick Gelant, and Dewaldt Duvenage. When asked if he would like to see Kolisi back in Cape Town, Dobson reminisced about their shared history.
"Here’s a story for you. We’ve been on quite a journey. When Siya joined us in 2010, it was with that remarkable U19 team. Him, Scarra [Siya Ntubeni], Eben [Etzebeth], Kitsie [Steven Kitshoff], and Franna [Frans Malherbe]. Of course, I would be interested. Siya is a quality guy, a great leader, and a fantastic player. We have a long history, and I would love to see him back."
Dobson, however, acknowledged that the decision is far from straightforward:
"But it’s up to Siya and the Sharks. Once that box is ticked, then we can see what’s in the piggy bank. But that’s another discussion."
Kolisi’s Desire for a Move
The news of Kolisi’s interest in returning to the Stormers has sparked excitement among fans, many of whom are eager to see the iconic player reunite with his old teammates. However, as Dobson emphasized, respect for existing contracts and relationships will guide any discussions.
For now, Kolisi is set to lead the Sharks this weekend in what promises to be an emotional and high-stakes encounter at DHL Stadium.
