As the 2024/25 Premier League season drew to a dramatic close, few players wrapped up the campaign with as much quiet impact as Marshall Munetsi.
The Zimbabwean midfielder, who joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in February, ended his debut season in England's top flight on a high note; smashing home a sensational goal against Brentford on the final day to help secure Wolves' survival.
It was a fitting finale for a player whose journey this season has been defined by grit, growth, and understated brilliance. While the spotlight often shines on the league’s flashier names, Munetsi has steadily carved out a reputation as a hard-tackling, forward-driving midfielder with a big engine and an even bigger heart.
In an exclusive interview, the 28-year-old opened up about his first season in the Premier League, the challenges Wolves faced, and his ambitions heading into the next campaign.
From personal milestones to team dynamics and the uncertain future for the club having already lost star man Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, Munetsi gave a candid and thoughtful reflection on what’s been; and what lies ahead.
Settling into the Premier League
Adjusting to the demands of the Premier League can be brutal; but Munetsi has embraced the challenge.
"It’s been a whirlwind but a rewarding one. The Premier League is intense; every week is a new war. I’ve had to grow fast, adapt faster, and trust my instincts. Playing regularly, learning from my teammates, and pushing myself to new levels; I’m proud of the foundation I’ve laid," Munetsi told SportsBoom.com.
It wasn’t just about survival for Munetsi; it was about setting a standard for himself. That mentality paid off in key moments, none more memorable than his final-day goal at Molineux.
A Goal to Remember
In front of a packed home crowd and under the pressure of an important game, Munetsi delivered a thunderous strike that rippled the net; and summed up everything he’d brought to Wolves this season.
"Personally, it was an emotional moment," he said of the goal.
"Scoring in front of our fans was special; it felt like validation. Professionally, it was a reminder of why I’m here. I want to be the kind of player who shows up when it matters. That goal wasn’t just for me; it was for the team, the fans, and everyone who kept believing."
The Fight for Survival
Wolves’ 2024/25 campaign was far from smooth. While they showed flashes of brilliance; including impressive performances against top-six sides, inconsistency often crept in.
"Consistency was our biggest issue," Munetsi admitted.
"We’d have great performances against top teams and then drop points in games we should control. Injuries played a part too. At times, it felt like we had to constantly reshuffle. But we stuck together. The belief in the dressing room never cracked."
That unity proved critical as the club clawed its way clear of the relegation zone late in the season.
Preparing for a New Chapter
Looking ahead, Munetsi is clear about what needs to change if Wolves want to avoid another bottom-half battle; especially with losing key figures like Matheus Cunha.
"We need depth, no question," he stated.
"Losing players like Cunha, will be tough; he brings creativity and energy. But Wolves can’t rely on one or two players. The system has to evolve, and everyone has to raise their game. Recruitment will be key. But more than that, our mindset has to shift; from survival to competing."
Eyes on the Future
For Munetsi, the next season isn’t just another campaign; it’s an opportunity to lead and make a bigger mark.
"Personally, I want to be a leader on and off the pitch; to help the younger players settle, and also contribute more goals and assists," he said.
"As a team, we need to be braver in big games and more clinical in front of goal. The margins are small in this league; and we’ve learned that the hard way. I’m optimistic though. With the right additions and the right mentality, Wolves can surprise people."
From Harare to the Premier League, Munetsi’s journey is a testament to quiet perseverance and relentless ambition. As he looks ahead to his second season at Molineux, one thing is clear; the midfield dynamo isn’t just here to compete.
He’s here to lead.
