Harry Kane

  • Season Won: 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2020-21
  • SB Market Index: 95

Mauricio Pochettino was carving out his path into the big time by building his reputation as one of the most exciting football managers in the Premier League, with his stellar work at Southampton earning the Argentine manager a chance at becoming Tottenham Hotspur head coach.

Upon arrival in North London, Pochettino’s eye for talent led him to smartly structure his team with 21-year-old Harry Kane spearheading Spurs’ attack. This combination worked wonders with Tottenham playing a beautifully balanced brand of football that was easy on the eye, as Spurs finished in the top-three of the Premier League for three successive seasons: 3rd (2015–16), 2nd (2016–17), and 3rd (2017–18).

Kane’s meteoric rise under the tutelage of Pochettino incredibly transformed Tottenham into genuine title contenders, exceeding their initial objectives of reaching the top four in order to secure the lucrative funds for participating in the UEFA Champions League.

Against all odds, Tottenham made their way into the 2019 UCL final, with Kane unfortunately suffering from a lateral ligament injury to his left ankle. Moussa Sissoko was controversially punished in the first minute for a sceptical handball decision that gave Liverpool the advantage, with Kane left to cruelly watch on from the sidelines.

Kane was gutted not to lift silverware for the club as a collective; however, his personal trophy cabinet is stacked with accolades, including back-to-back Golden Boots, scoring 25 and 29 Premier League goals in consecutive seasons that announced the future England all-time top goal-scorer as a force to be reckoned with.

Kane wasn’t just a poacher; he dropped deep to link-up play, creating chances for teammates with his intelligent movement, tireless work ethic, and intelligent finishing after frequently combining with Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, and Son Heung-min.

Mohamed Salah

When Mohamed Salah left AS Roma and signed for English giants Liverpool in 2017, few could have predicted the seismic impact the ‘Egyptian King’ would have on the club and the Premier League as a whole.

Under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, Salah flourished into one of the most electrifying forwards in world football with their high-octane brand of ‘heavy-metal’ football, making Sadio Mane and Salah two of the most beloved footballers across the globe.

Salah’s speed was terrifying as he consistently and aggressively challenged opposing defenders directly with his dribbling after being smartly played into dangerous open spaces by underrated teammate Roberto Firmino.

The Egyptian’s debut season was nothing short of extraordinary as he set the Premier League alight by breaking the record (scoring 32 goals) during the 2017-18 campaign, while netting a total of 44 goals across all competitions.

A tally that earned Salah, PFA Player of the Year and Golden Boot honours, but the Egyptian forward was just getting warmed up as he scored 22 Premier League goals in his second season to prove he’s no one-season wonder.

Liverpool were narrowly edged to the Premier League title by a single point, after reaching 97 points while lifting their sixth UCL title at the cost of Tottenham, with the Klopp era truly beginning to take shape with Salah as their centrepiece in 2018-19.

The wait for the Premier League crown was around the corner as Liverpool finally lifted their 19th title in 2019-20, with Salah scoring 19 times as Liverpool peaked at the summit with 99 points.

Under the guidance of manager Arne Slot during his debut season in England, Salah brought a second and most satisfying Premier League title to Merseyside in 2024–25, as it levels matters with arch-rivals Manchester United, who’re also on 20 league titles.

For this reason alone, the legend of Mo Salah stands tall among Anfield’s immortals, with his name being sung just as loud as every echo during ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

Robin van Persie

  • Season Won: 2011-12, 2012-13
  • SB Market Index: 90

Robin van Persie’s 2011-12 season with Arsenal remains one of the most memorable individual campaigns in Premier League history, with one of my personal favourite goals.
Midfielder Alex Song lofted a precise chipped pass over the defence, and van Persie calmly received the ball over his shoulder to powerfully volley home a superb strike. Recreating the goal a year later from a Wayne Rooney cross against Aston Villa to clinch the Premier League title.

At Arsenal, van Persie led from the front as captain with the Dutchman as a one-man orchestra, combining elegance, precision, and ruthless finishing to inspire the Gunners. Scoring 30 Premier League goals for Arsenal during the 2011-12 season earned van Persie the Golden Boot.

However, after receiving a call from Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson that piqued his interest in winning a Premier League title, van Persie departed for the “Theatre of Dreams” the next season.

Ferguson’s final season was crowned in glory as he rode off into the sunset as a champion with van Persie as the most lethal weapon in his attacking arsenal.

Delivering the goals that powered Manchester United to the Premier League title to fulfil his own dream while giving the legendary manager the perfect farewell from English football’s grandest stage.

Luis Suarez

  • Season Won: 2013-14
  • SB Market Index: 88

Following his 10-match ban by the English FA for taking a bite out of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during a Premier League match at Anfield, Luis Suarez returned to football absolutely starving for success and goals this time, instead of defenders.

His hunger turned Liverpool’s 2013-14 campaign into a feast of football excellence, with Daniel Sturridge and a young Raheem Sterling forming an unforgettable combination at the top of the pitch with Suarez as the focal point under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers.

Despite missing the opening five matches due to his suspension, the Uruguayan striker managed to score 31 goals in the Premier League. Suarez tormented defenders with his relentless energy, both on and off the ball.

He was determined to press and win the ball off his opponents, while his dazzling footwork and audacious creativity showcased some of the best attacking football fans at Anfield have ever witnessed, with ‘SAS’ (Suarez and Sturridge) becoming the stuff of folklore during Liverpool’s resurgence.

Suarez scored every type of goal imaginable, from long-range strikes, weaving solo runs, and curling efforts into the top corner that left goalkeepers helpless. Liverpool were far from title-contenders for more than 20 years, before the arrival of Suarez changed the Reds’ fortunes and gave them the possibility to dream after finishing 2nd in the 2013-14 season.

Sergio Aguero

Manchester City's Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero

  • Season Won: 2014-15
  • SB Market Index: 87

In 2013-14, Argentine striker Sergio Aguero etched his name into English football history by scoring his famous winner against Queens Park Rangers to clinch Manchester City’s first Premier League title.

After becoming English champions, Manchester City were being chased down by then UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea for their Premier League crown. Step up Aguero, enjoying his best campaign in 2014-15, being injury-free for the majority of the season, and crucially finding the back of the net 26 times in the league to earn himself the Golden Boot.
However, it was bittersweet for Aguero as Chelsea eventually wrestled the Premier League title away from Manchester City by an eight-point difference, courtesy of Diego Costa’s 20-goal Premier League tally and the PFA Young Player of the Year, Eden Hazard, scoring 14 times.

Aguero finished that season with 26 Premier League goals from 33 appearances with his trademark explosiveness, combining blistering acceleration with powerful shots on target and cold composure inside the 18-yard box when required.

His understanding with David Silva and Yaya Toure allowed Manchester City to play fluid football, beginning an era of Premier League dominance since the arrival of manager Pep Guardiola.

Following his final appearance for the Citizens, an emotional Guardiola, with one eye on signing Erling Haaland as Aguero’s replacement, claimed, “We cannot replace him. We cannot."

CONCLUSION

During the past decade, the Premier League has been blessed and occasionally terrified by strikers who make defenders cry. Whether it was Suarez chomping through defences, Salah running down the wing, or Aguero sneaking in that impossible strike before the final whistle, these premier footballers showcased that scoring is both an art and a science. Beyond trophies, records, headlines, and money, these Golden Boot winners gave their fans unforgettable moments of sheer joy and fond memories that will be shared with future generations of young strikers seeking advice.
