Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella has hailed Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane as the best striker in the Bundesliga.
The England captain has been outstanding since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, scoring 62 goals in 63 Bundesliga appearances. He has averaged a goal every 92 minutes across 31 league outings, and last season became only the seventh player in Bundesliga history to win back-to-back Torjägerkanone awards for top scorer.
Kane added to his tally at the weekend, netting his 86th goal in 92 appearances in all competitions during Bayern’s German Super Cup victory over Stuttgart.
Tella: ‘Hard to Argue’
“Harry Kane is the best striker in the Bundesliga,” Tella told SportsBoom.com when asked for his opinion on who he believes is the league’s leading centre-forward.
“I won’t lie, it’s difficult to argue that, because we can see the number of goals that he’s scored for Bayern Munich.”
Kane has won the Torjägerkanone in each of his two seasons in Germany.
The 31-year-old scored 36 goals in 32 games in his debut campaign before adding 26 goals last term.
Patrik Schick (Bayer Leverkusen) and Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund) were his closest challengers with 21 goals each, while Mainz’s Jonathan Burkardt (18) and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Tim Kleindienst (16) followed.
“We still have to give respect to other strikers in the league. Obviously Victor Boniface and Patrick Schick, they are my teammates and very good as well,” Tella added.
Changing Landscape of Bundesliga Strikers
The Bundesliga has long been regarded as a home for prolific forwards, but in recent seasons many have departed for the Premier League.
Erling Haaland left Borussia Dortmund for Manchester City, before Omar Marmoush also moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to City in January. Benjamin Sesko joined Manchester United from RB Leipzig, while Hugo Ekitike left Frankfurt for Liverpool.
These departures have led to suggestions Kane could dominate the scoring charts again due to a lack of competition. Tella, however, disagrees.
“There is competition in the league with good players, but I’ll say Kane tops this league at the moment. Of course we have Serhou Guirassy and some other really good strikers in the league,” he said.
Now in his third full season in Germany, Kane has already won two trophies with Bayern and remains under contract until 30 June 2027.
The England captain will once again be aiming to lead the Bundesliga scoring charts and add to his growing legacy.
