Exclusive: Sunderland Weighing Up Offer to Sign Former Sheffield United And Liverpool Hitman Rhian Brewster on Free Transfer

Premier League-bound Sunderland are weighing up an offer to sign free agent Rhian Brewster after his deal ran out with Sheffield United, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

But our sources have also learnt that the former Liverpool striker is also wanted by West Brom and Preston North End, both of whom are interested in acquiring his services.

Brewster’s five-year deal with the Blades expired on Monday having joined the club in a high-profile £23.5million deal in October 2020,

The Blades offered Brewster a new deal a month ago but the 25-year-old has not signed in and his understood to be ready for a new challenge.

However, SportsBoom has learnt the reduced terms that were offered were not to the player’s liking and now a move away from Bramall Lane looks most likely.

The Blades reached the Championship Play-off final last year but were frustratingly beaten by Sunderland who, in a cruel twist of fate, now want one of their players to join them in their first season back in the top-flight.

The former England Under-21 international struggled for form at the South Yorkshire and was plagued with injuries which halted his progression.

But a source close to the player revealed Brewster believes he has lots left to offer and, at only 25, has years ahead of him if he can keep fit.

Last season the former Chelsea youth team ace played 36 times in the second tier for Chris Wilder’s men.

SHOCK DEPARTURE

He chipped in with four goals, but Wilder’s shock departure as seen the arrival of new boss Ruben Selles and Brewster’s future has been thrown into even more doubt.

When Wilder was at the club it was well-known that he wanted to keep him, but Selles has fresh plans for the team since taking over the managerial reigns earlier this month.

Brewster had three seasons with Liverpool but didn’t play a single game for the club in the Premier League, making just four appearances in cup competitions.

He was loaned to Swansea City during the 2019-20 campaign before the Blades signed him on a permanent deal.

In all he has played 119 games for the Blades across his five season, with 40 of those appearances having coming in the Premier League.
