Ivorian forward Yann Gboho has committed himself to mentoring young players at Toulouse and also improve his personal record in the Ligue 1 this season.

Gboho started the 2025-26 season on a flying note with an impressive performance as Toulouse started the French top-flight with a 1-0 win at Nice.

The 24-year-old was among the few experienced players that featured in the youthful set-up on Saturday and he is to guide them.

“I'm happy for the team because we are very, very young,” Gboho told SportsBoom.com.

“There are young players who just played their first match."

“I will continue to give them confidence, we know it can't be easy as we’ve all been there. They're young players, but they came in full of confidence. I'm happy for them then there's the victory.”

Following their winning start to the season, the Violets will welcome Brest to Stadium de Toulouse on Sunday for their second Ligue 1 fixture.

TOULOUSE YOUNG STARS FULL OF CONFIDENCE

Gboho, who is a cousin of PSG star Desire Doue, further expressed his happiness with the youthful set-up of Carles Martinez Novell’s squad.

However, he believes there is still a long way to go with 37 league matches excluding cup competition left to play.

“There are young players who just have played their first match,” he continued.

“I will continue to give them confidence, we know it can't be easy as we’ve all been there."

“They're young players, but they came in full of confidence. I'm happy for them then the first win but the work is just getting started."

“So, there are offensive players who defend, defenders who score. That’s what we want for the season and we're happy with it.”

GBOHO SETS TARGET FOR MORE GOALS

On a personal note, Gboho has set a target to improve his tally of five goals and four assists from 31 Ligue 1 matches last season.

The former Cercle Bruges forward returned to France in January 2024 after coming through the ranks at Rennes.

He credited Spanish manager Martinez Novell for believing in him as he aims to be better with goalscoring return.

On his form, Gboho said: “Since pre-season, I've felt good. The coach gives me confidence."

“Afterwards, I do what I know how to do. There are stats too. We talked about it a little last season."

“It's also important to get back to big stats, whether it's assists or goals. I aspire to test myself everyday. I'm an offensive player. It's an important thing for me," he concluded.
