Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will return to England after his Besiktas contract was terminated, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Our sources understand the former Arsenal and Liverpool winger, 32, cut ties with the Turkish club in order to give him time to decide on a new club before the transfer window shuts.
It is understood that Leeds United and Birmingham City have already expressed interest in bringing the experienced midfielder back to England.
But a number of clubs are now on high alert given the player’s free agent status.
Our sources understand Wrexham and Burnley are also prepared to enter the race for the Premier League and Champions League winner.
Birmingham are hopeful the project at the club with their new ambitious ownership group could tempt the winger to St Andrews.
But they will face stiff competition from a number of Premier League and Championship clubs for his services.
Worth the Risk?
Oxlade-Chamberlain had one year left on his three-year Besiktas deal, which he signed in 2023 following his release from Liverpool.
But it is understood to have wanted a return to England to be closer to his family.
The Turkish club, managed by former Manchester United boss Ole Gunner Solskjaer, paid him a £1.58million severance fee.
Oxlade-Chamberlain won the Turkish Cup during his first year at the club, but struggled with injuries and was frozen out during parts of last season.
At his best the winger was a regular starter for England and was capped 35 times by his country, last donning the national shirt in 2019.
He was part of the famous Liverpool squad which ended their agonising wait for a Premier League title in 2020, having signed for £35million from Arsenal three years earlier.
But he was hampered by injuries during his time at Anfield with two serious injuries ultimately ending his spell with the club.
