Andy Robertson is expected to return to boyhood club Celtic at the end of the season, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The two-time Premier League winner’s contract at Anfield ends in the summer.

Our sources have been told Robertson is considering his options ahead of his next move, but a return to Scotland is increasingly likely after this summer’s World Cup in North America.

It is understood talks have already begun between Robertson’s representatives and bosses at Parkhead, where Robertson was at the academy between the ages of nine and 15.

But as he enters the final months of his deal, it is understood the Reds are ready to offer him a contract extension.

The 31-year-old has played at the Merseyside club since he moved from Hull City for £8million in 2017.

During his time at Anfield he has won nine trophies, which includes a Champions League triumph.

SportsBoom sources reported earlier this year that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is ready to make a move to Celtic, raising the prospect of Robertson linking up with a former Liverpool team-mate at Parkhead this summer.

Fresh Start Beckons

Tottenham Hotspur were interested in a move in the winter window for the experienced defender and are keen on making the deal happen when Robertson becomes a free agent in June.

But whether Scotland captain Robertson stays in the Premier League remains to be seen.

Speaking about his future just last month, he said: “I've got five months left and we need to see what the option is to stay or if there's options to go and things like that. I need to sit down with my family and decide.”

“I can focus on the last eight and a half years. I think Jurgen Klopp left me out for one game and I was raging. So I'm a player who wants to play.”

Milos Kerkez was a £40million summer signing from Bournemouth which has left Robertson as a back-up in Arne Slot’s squad.

Of his 14 Premier League appearances this term only four of those have been starts leaving his Liverpool future in the balance.
