Archie Gray has reassured Tottenham Hotspur that he will not look to orchestrate a move elsewhere if they suffer the indignity of being relegated from the Premier League this season, SportsBoom understands.

The youngster’s display of loyalty, as the Londoners’ already catastrophic campaign continues to spiral further and further towards outright disaster, is a rare chink of light amid the gloom enveloping the club.

Although it is unlikely to dissuade Gray’s legion of admirers from testing the resolve of both his representatives and also Spurs’ hierarchy, which is reportedly facing a £250m loss should they slide into the Championship, the teenager is prepared to try and lead the fightback if the worst case scenario does materialise.

After succumbing to Crystal Palace last week, Spurs return to Premier League action at the weekend hoping to avoid a sixth consecutive league defeat and fourth since Igor Tudor replaced Thomas Frank at the helm.

They have not tasted success in domestic competition for two-and-a-half months, with their only victories during that period coming in Europe after prevailing in the Europa League under Frank’s immediate predecessor Ange Postecoglou.

Despite those miserable results, Gray’s reputation has actually been enhanced after completing a reported £40m transfer from Leeds United, where his father Andy, grandfather Frank and great uncle Eddie all played with distinction, in 2024.

Gray has been linked with a massive move to Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, with both European powerhouses reportedly confident they could tempt the youngster away with a £55m offer.

Proven Versatility

Ostensibly signed as a midfielder, the 19-year-old has frequently operated as a defender this term as injuries and suspensions continue to blight a Spurs squad which is also seemingly bereft of confidence.

Capped by England at youth and under-21 level, Gray remains eligible to represent Scotland although a senior call-up by the Three Lions appears to be inevitable in the not-too-distant future.

Having progressed through the youth programme at Elland Road, he made the first of his 52 appearances for Leeds during a Championship fixture against Cardiff City, going on to be named as the EFL’s Young Player of the Season, ahead of his switch to the capital.

Gray had featured 28 times for Spurs this term ahead of their forthcoming Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid in Spain.

They will then prepare for the visit to Anfield in 16th position, and only a point above West Ham in 18th. Interim boss Igor Tudor has been told his job could be under threat if performances don't get better over these two fixtures.
