Chelsea will turn to Cesc Fábregas if they decide to call time on Project Rosenoir, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Blues’ boss Liam Rosenoir is already on borrowed time just 19 games in to his six-year contract.
An abject 3-0 defeat at Everton on Saturday night, a third successive game without a goal, was thought to be the last straw for some of the Stamford Bridge board.
This followed on from a humiliating 8-2 aggregate last 16 Champions League defeat to Paris St Germain.
Chelsea's fourth successive loss leaves them sixth in the Premier League table and in danger of failing to qualify for next season's Champions League.
After the international break they host Port Vale for a place in the FA Cup semi-finals followed by Premier League home dates against Manchester City and Manchester United.
Liverpool and Spurs are also among Chelsea’s remaining seven league fixtures.
Some pundits believe ex-Strasbourg chief Rosenoir should quit now. And that feeling is shared by others with more power at Stamford Bridge, according to sources closes to the club.
The tension isn’t just on the pitch. Rosenior reportedly clashed with Chelsea’s hierarchy over transfer plans, urging the recruitment of seasoned players to steady the squad. Sources say the board, however, remain committed to their long-term experiment in youth and potential, leaving the manager at odds with Stamford Bridge even off the field.
Bridge Return For Cesc?
Blues’ legend John Terry, currently an Academy coach at Stamford Bridge, has been mentioned in some quarters as a possible interim fix.
But Fábregas is the name in the frame for the bigger picture. The former Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal star is currently in charge of Serie A side, Como.
Spanish great Fábregas has guided the unheralded club up to fourth and on the brink of a potential Champions League debut in 2026/2027 playing an entertaining style.
Seven years ago, Como languished in the fourth tier of Italian football. Now, they are mixing it with Serie A giants with only Inter Milan, AC Milan and Napoli above them.
What appeals to some Chelsea power brokers is that Como have one of the youngest squads in the competition with an average age just over 25.
And the Italians have admitted that Fábregas will almost certainly leave Como for a bigger club. It just depends when.
