Exclusive: Chelsea Keen to Sign Leicester City Wonderkid Jeremy Monga

Chelsea are interested in signing Leicester City wonderkid Jeremy Monga, who recently made his Premier League debut at just 15. Other top clubs are also eyeing the midfielder, but Chelsea's Enzo Maresca is keen to secure his signature. Chelsea may offer to loan him back to Leicester to aid his development.

Chelsea are monitoring Leicester City wonderkid Jeremy Monga, SportsBoom sources can reveal.

The teenager, who earlier this month became the second youngest player in history to make their Premier League debut, is attracting interest from a host of top-flight clubs following his breakthrough season at King Power Stadium.

Manchester City and Liverpool, who were confirmed as champions last weekend, have both been credited with an interest in the 15-year-old.

But SportsBoom can exclusively reveal that Blues boss Enzo Maresca, one of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s most recent predecessors at City, has also instructed Stamford Bridge’s recruitment gurus to keep a close eye on Monga.

Indeed, sources in the east Midlands last night confirmed that City are aware that Chelsea are gathering information on the attacking midfielder ahead of a possible swoop this summer.

Having seen their relegation back to the Championship confirmed, van Nistelrooy’s employers are expecting a flurry of offers for Monga when the transfer window reopens.

Although the youngster is not agitating for a move - and is unlikely to do so having made only three senior appearances - he could find it almost impossible to turn down a switch to one of England’s traditional big-guns given the uncertainty surrounding van Nisterooy’s future at City.

HOOVERING UP TALENT

Chelsea have made hoovering up some of the world’s most exciting emerging talents their motif since a consortium led by Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly, replaced the sanctioned Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich at the helm of the west London giants.

And they could attempt to steal a match on their rivals for Monga’s signature by offering to loan him back to City next term in order to accelerate his development.

If such a proposal materialises, that could prove almost impossible for van Nistelrooy’s employers to turn down given the pressure they are under to comply with football’s expenditure regulations.

Monga made his professional bow as a late substitute during City’s home defeat by Newcastle on April 7th.

He has subsequently featured against Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
