Newcastle United will approach Chelsea about the possibility of signing Nicolas Jackson if Liam Rosenior refuses to petition for the centre-forward to be granted a reprieve at Stamford Bridge, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The Senegal international, who joined Bayern Munich on loan earlier this season, hoped to persuade the Bundesliga champions to make his deal permanent during the summer recess.

But with a return to Stamford Bridge now imminent, having failed to become one of Vincent Kompany's ‘go-to talents’, Jackson is now expecting to return to the capital over the summer.

And that has placed The Magpies, who as SportsBoom exclusively revealed last year view him as a tailor-made addition to their squad, on red alert as they look to bolster the attacking options at Eddie Howe’s disposal.

With the Premier Leaguer’s financial regulations limiting their influence in the transfer market, they hope The Blues will lower the £70m valuation theft placed on him last summer, should Jackson again be declared surplus to requirements.

After expressing his disappointment at United’s activity during the winter transfer window, Howe is set to perform a major overhaul of his squad ahead of next term with his squad’s frontline a particular area of concern.

Nick Woltemade’s performances have been capable enough since being drafted in to replace the Liverpool-bound Alexander Isak.

But he is not viewed by The Magpies’ coaching staff as a direct replacement for the free-scoring Swede; hence their interest in Jackson.

With another of his potential suitors Aston Villa acquiring Tammy Abraham recently, Howe could now be left with a clear route towards the Chelsea marksman’s signature.

It has also been noted in the North-East that Villa’s withdrawal from the market will limit The Blues’ ability to spark an auction for a player they spent an estimated £32m on after prising him away from Villarreal three years ago.

As reported by SportsBoom last week, Villa hitman Ollie Watkins is also an option for the Magpies.
