Denmark international hitman Mathias Kvistgaarden would love a move to Scottish champions Celtic, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Our sources have learnt highly-rated striker Kvistgaarden is keen to push through a deal to join Brendan Rodgers’ double-winning side.

But the major stumbling block is the £15million transfer fee between wanted by the 23-year-old’s club Brondby if he is to stand any chance of signing for the Hoops.

Rodgers’ is understood to be a big fan of the sought-after forward who impressed with 19 goals in 29 games for Brondby in the Danish Superliga last season.

The striker, who has two years left on his contract, is currently playing for Denmark in the Under-21 European Championships in Slovakia, with his country having reached the quarter-final stages. They play France on Sunday for a place in the last four.

Last season was by far Kvistgaarden’s best season in six seasons with the former Danish Superliga winners, with whom he won the league title in the 2020-21 season.

But the club finished third this time around and the youngster is hungry to challenge for trophies. At Celtic he knows he could do that.

Kvistgaarden, who made his senior international last season having represented his country at every age-level from Under-18s to U21s, has bagged 47 goals in 125 career appearances for his boyhood club.

READY FOR STEP UP

But having played for Brondby since 2019, the ambitious frontman is ready for a change – and has let it be known his desire to team up with compatriot Kasper Schmeichel in the Scottish Premiership.

Veteran Denmark international shot-stopper Schmeichel, 38, has played 114 times for his country and is enjoying the twilight of his incredible career at Celtic Park.

And the former Premier League winner with Leicester City enjoyed welcome success in his debut season for Rodgers’ dominant side last term as they won the Scottish Premiership crown for a fourth season in a row and were crowned Scottish League Cup winners for the 22nd time in the club’s illustrious history.

In an interview with TV 2 Sport the talented forward admitted: “I've made my mark at Brondby and in the Superliga, so I'm ready to take the next step.”
