World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez will leave the Premier League at the end of the season for a new career in Italy, SportsBoom can reveal.

Aston Villa’s twice World Goalie of the Year is under contract at Villa Park until 2029.

But having nearly quit the West Midlands’ club for Manchester United last summer, our sources understand it will be second time lucky for the Villans’ Argentinean ace.

Former Old Trafford chief Ruben Amorim was keen to recruit flamboyant Martinez and the player wanted to replace Andre Onana.

But little known Belgian Senne Lammens was seen as a more reliable pair of hands going forward.

Our sources have been told Inter Milan and Juventus are heading the race to sign one-time Arsenal keeper Martinez, now 33.

Turkish giants Galatasaray have been interested previously.

League leaders Milan will lose veteran Swiss keeper Yann Sommer at the end of the season. The ex-Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich keeper, now 37, is linked with a switch to FC Basel as his contract runs down at Inter.

Martinez, who has played more than 200 times since joining Villa in 2020, is seen as the perfect experienced replacement.

Martinez Moving On

And the 2022 World Cup champion is keen for a new challenge after 14 years in England where he has also played on loan at Oxford, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, Wolves and Reading.

However, according to Italian sources, Inter face severe competition from Juventus who want to replace error prone Michele Di Gregorio.

Juve have also considered Liverpool custodian Alisson Becker. But the Brazilian and former Roma favourite, wants to stay at Anfield until his contract expires in 2027.

Spurs’ number one Guglielmo Vicario is another possible option.

However, Martinez, who won his FIFA golden gloves accolade in 2022 and 2024. ticks all the boxes for the Turin club who currently languish sixth, 17 points behind table toppers Milan.
