Nottingham Forest are willing to bring Brennan Johnson back to the City Ground, for half the price they sold him for, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Wales international left the club in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £47.5million.
But the 24-year-old has struggled to cement a regular starting place this season under boss Thomas Frank, despite Spurs having lost just one of the six games Johnson has started this season.
The winger scored in the Spurs’ first two games of the season, an impressive 3-0 win over Burnley and an ever better 2-0 victory away to Manchester City.
But, amazingly, the 42-cap international has fallen down the pecking order ever since and been a substitute on no fewer than eight occasions in the league.
Johnson has scored two more goals this season, one in the EFL Cup – another one of his rare starts – as well in a fine 4-0 European Cup home win over Copenhagen last month.
But he was also sent-off in that match in the second half and has not started a league game since under Frank.
Forest are also planning ahead for a future that could be without star midfielder Elliot Anderson, with Lyon’s Tyler Morton identified as their preferred replacement should Anderson leave for a Champions League club.
LOSS CUT
Now it has emerged Spurs are ready to cut their losses on the winger who, despite falling out of favour, has played a key role for the club the past two seasons.
Crystal Palace are also reportedly in the mix for Johnson's signature, but Forest believe they can entice him back to the City Ground.
Last season he bagged six goals in as many games for this club, seven in all for club and country.
He finished the season with 22 goals, 18 of which were for Spurs and famously scored the winner as the North London outfit beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final in Bilbau, ending a 17-year wait for a trophy, albeit that was under former manager Ange Postecoglou.
Johnson has also been a big player for Wales the past few seasons, especially during their World Cup qualifying campaign.
He scored in his country’s famous 7-1 win over North Macedonia which guaranteed a place in the World Cup play-off qualifiers in March.
