Livingston are looking to open talks with a view to signing former Denmark international Kristian Pedersen, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
But the Lions also face competition from an unknown Championship side who have also made contact with the player about a potential move on a free transfer.
Former Swansea City defender Pedersen was released this summer after two years at the Liberty Stadium.
And the experienced 31-year-old left-back is understandably keen to kickstart his stagnated career, having been starved of regular football for the past 18 months.
Pedersen, who previously played 155 games for former club Birmingham City in the Championship, has been starved of first-team action.
He played just four league games for the Swans – and seven in total - across a frustrating two-year spell where he struggled to cement a regular first-team spot.
The one-cap international was one of a string of players who were told they were surplus to requirements by the Swans this summer as they looked to freshen their squad for the Championship this season.
PERMANENT MOVE
And now the defender, who has also played in the German Bundesliga with FC Koln, is looking to find a permanent home to get back to playing regular football.
Pedersen was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday a couple of seasons and played four games for the Owls with a view to a potential permanent deal being struck.
But no deal ever materialised and Pedersen has been left in the wilderness ever since, hungry to find a permanent home for the new campaign.
Pedersen commanded an £18,000-a-week wage in Wales, but it is understood he would accept a reduced wage in exchange for regular football.
Scottish Premiership Livingston are looking to strengthen their defence after a disappointing start to the season which has seen them leak a worrying eight goals in four league games so far this campaign.
The club are ninth in the table after just one win from four league fixtures – and Pedersen is being viewed as a player who could add welcome experience to the club’s fallible backline.
