Gustavo Hamer is attracting interest from Leeds United and a host of Premier League clubs following Sheffield United’s failure to regain top-flight status at the first attempt, SportsBoom sources can reveal.
Voted the Championship’s most influential performer last season, the former Coventry City attacker found himself on the losing side during last weekend’s play-off final at Wembley despite excelling against Sunderland.
And now Hamer is set to be the subject of at least one big money bid as Chris Wilder, United’s dejected manager, attempts to keep together a squad which will start next term in the second tier even though it finished 14 points clear of Regis Le Bris’ men.
Sources at Elland Road have confirmed that Daniel Farke will encourage the West Yorkshire club’s owners to swoop for Hamer after failing in an attempt to lure him away from South Yorkshire 12 months ago.
But Nottingham Forest and Brighton are also thought to be keeping a close eye on the 27-year-old, while Everton are also considering whether or not to enter the fray for his services.
Forest view Hamer as a potential replacement for Morgan Gibbs-White, should Manchester City prove able to lure the England international away from the east Midlands this summer. Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni is another name to be linked with a switch to the City Ground.
PLENTY OF ADMIRERS
Hamer, who provided the assist for Tyrese Campbell’s opener before Sunderland completed a stunning comeback in the capital, also boasts admirers on the south coast where Brighton chief Fabian Hurzeler is contemplating selling Joao Pedro following a training ground bust-up with a teammate.
But Everton are another possible destination for the creative heart of Wilder’s side. They tried to sign Iliman Ndiaye from United before losing out to Marseille, only to return again when the Senegalese’s stint in France turned sour.
Crucially, officials at Goodison Park and United are known to enjoy good relations, with Tom Davies heading in the opposite direction after leaving Merseyside.
Hamer will not actively look to engineer a transfer over the summer. But his representatives are aware that, together with Vini Souza and Anel Ahmedhodzic, the clash with Sunderland is likely to mark their client’s final appearance in United colours.
