Harvey Elliott will consider moving abroad over the summer in an attempt to reignite his career, SportsBoom can reveal.

The Liverpool youngster, currently on loan at Aston Villa, has endured a miserable season in the Midlands after featuring only seven times under manager Unai Emery.

Although discussions between Villa and The Reds, aimed at removing the obligation to buy clause contained within his agreement which is apparently at the heart of the issue, are expected to see him utilised on a more regular basis between now and the end of the campaign, Elliott remains disillusioned at how his move to Emery’s squad has worked out.

And, in order to secure more minutes on the pitch, the 22-year-old is understood to have told his representatives to explore possible opportunities abroad with clubs in Germany and Italy thought to be interested in acquiring his services.

Elliott was viewed as one of the country’s most exciting prospects when he swapped Fulham for Anfield in 2019. However, he has failed to establish himself in the North-West and is expected to leave Anfield at the end of the present campaign.

Although Elliott’s preference is to remain in this country, he also views the Bundesliga and Serie A as desirable destinations with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Ademola Lookman, Jobe Bellingham, Jadon Sancho and Fikayo Tomori heading to continental Europe after turning professional in England.

Elliott did enjoy a rare outing at Villa during Sunday’s defeat at Brentford. Rather than a lack of faith in his talent - even though he failed to impress at the beginning of his spell there - Emery’s reluctance to use Elliott is understood to stem from the fact Villa are required to purchase him once he makes 10 senior appearances for them.

If Liverpool agree to remove that stipulation then Emery will review the player's situation as he looks to negotiate his way through a busy period in the fixture calendar.
