Harvey Elliott is desperate to remain in the Premier League despite reports he could move to Charlotte FC this month, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The 22-year-old’s career has been left in limbo after being jettisoned from contention under Aston Villa boss Unai Emery.
Elliott’s loan move, which included a £35million buy clause, from Liverpool to Villa Park in the summer was meant to represent a fresh start for the England U21 international.
But it has turned into a nightmare for the winger, who was once starring alongside Mohamed Salah.
Sources in Merseyside have told SportsBoom Elliott is eager to remain in the Premier League and has no intentions of moving to the MLS at this stage of his career.
But regulations state he cannot play for three European sides in the same campaign, which means he would have to wait until the end of the season for a fresh start.
Elliott is an outcast at Villa and has not played since October with the clause to buy the player triggering at ten games.
And the Villains are ready to rip up his loan move and return him to Liverpool to free up money in their wage bill to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek this month.
Career Stalled
Elliott starred during his spell at U21 level as he helped England to win the European Championship in 2023 and 2025, where he was the Player of the Tournament.
But his career has stalled since his failed move to Villa.
During the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, he was a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool since, playing 66 times in the Premier League those two years.
Last season, Elliott made 18 appearances as the Reds won the Premier League during Arne Slot’s first season in charge.
But he featured just once in the league this term after Slot made a number of summer signings and moved to Villa on deadline day.
