Exclusive: Injury-Prone Luke Shaw Destined to Leave Old Trafford This Summer

Injury-prone Luke Shaw is set to leave Manchester United this summer after a string of injuries. With just three substitute appearances in 13 months, his United career seems to be coming to an end despite having two years left on his contract. The left-back has struggled with injuries, leading to his limited playing time and falling down the pecking order. Shaw's departure is expected as United looks to refresh its squad with younger talent.

Injury-prone Luke Shaw is on his way out of the Manchester United exit door, SportsBoom sources can reveal.

The experienced England international finally returned to training this week ahead of the Red Devils’ Premier League showdown with Nottingham Forest Tuesday (1st April) evening.

But Shaw, who has mustered just three substitute appearances in the past 13 months, is understood to have resigned to himself that his United career is coming to an end.

It’s no secret his career has been blighted my injury in the last two seasons, with calf and hamstring injuries having significantly limited his time on the pitch.

And with United boss Ruben Amorim hungry to refresh his squad this summer having struggled to turn around the club’s worrying fortunes, Shaw is understood to be one of a string of places expected to make way for new, younger talent.

His contract at Old Trafford does not expire until June 2027.

    FEWEST-EVER APPEARANCES

The 29-year-old has played 11 seasons in the Premier League for United, but this season marks his fewest-ever league appearances.

He had a purple patch between from the start of the 2018 season to the end of the 2023 seasons where he played roughly 20-30 league games every season.

But the left-back plated just 12 league games last season and has understandably fallen down the pecking order over the last 24 months because of his frustrating injuries and lack of fitness.

Amazingly, Shaw made a shock return for England, for whom he has 34 caps over eight years, in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 last summer.

He featured as a late substitute in that fixture and also in the semi-finals, before making history in the final as the first player to make his only start in a UEFA Euro tournament in the final since Marco Delvecchio at EURO 2000 for Italy.
