Inter Milan are planning a swoop for Emiliano Martinez as they look to life beyond Yann Sommer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Swiss star, 37, has been at the San Siro since 2023 but is out of contract at the end of the season.
And that has led the Italian giants to weigh up their options heading into the summer.
Our sources understand there is still a chance Inter offer the stopper, who helped him to the Serie A title during his first campaign at the club, a new deal.
But it is understood there is appetite among Inter chiefs to get World Cup winner Martinez.
The Aston Villa stopper will have a year left on his current deal at the end of the season.
But it is widely understood that Martinez, who was stripped of the vice captaincy by Unai Emery earlier this season, is ready to end his five-year stay at the Premier League club.
Martinez Ready To Move On
Moving from Arsenal to Villa in 2020 helped Martinez forge his reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
He made his Argentina debut a year after making the move to the Midlands.
But Martinez has wanted out of the club for a while and hopes to get his wish this summer.
The 33-year-old knows the next move of his career will potentially be the last big switch he makes and he wants to be at one of the biggest clubs in Europe, given his pedigree as one of the best glovemen in the world.
Martinez appeared to say an emotional goodbye Villa’s supporters at the end of last season.
But a move to Manchester United, which Martinez was heavily rooting for, fell through as the club pivoted to Belgian Senne Lammens instead.
Given their position with PSR rules, Villa are unlikely to stand in his way this summer as they would rather receive a fair fee for the stopper than see him leave for free next year.
