Nigerian youngster Adam Yakubu could be set for a January move away from AS Trenčín, with Watford and Leicester City showing strong interest, a source has told SportsBoom.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been on the radar of several clubs, with scouts from England present at the Štadión na Sihoti to watch him in action against Prešov over the weekend, nd they reportedly left impressed.

“He played very well and the scouts were impressed. I think he could leave in January if everything goes according to plan. He’s a very good midfielder,” the source told SportsBoom.com.

SportsBoom also understands that Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk and Belgian Jupiler Pro League side KAA Gent have expressed interest, joining what is becoming a competitive chase for the midfielder’s signature.

Yakubu joined AS Trenčín in the summer of 2024 from Plateau United in the Nigeria Premier Football League. Since his arrival, he has emerged as one of the standout young midfielders in the Slovak Nike Liga.

His strong form has drawn concrete attention from Gent, as well as Championship sides Leicester City and Watford, who are exploring potential deals ahead of the winter transfer window.

Yakubu has started 14 of Trenčín’s 16 league matches this season, underlining his importance to the team and fuelling growing speculation that a January exit could be on the cards.
