Leicester City are set to face a real battle to keep hold of midfielder Harry Winks, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The former England international has expressed his desire to continue playing Premier League football next season – and is now looking for a new club for next season.
And a number of Premier League clubs, including Everton, West Ham, Fulham and Brentford have expressed an interest in signing the player.
Winks has one more year remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium, but it is understood he has a clause in his current contract which allows him to leave if the club were relegated from the top-flight.
And with the Foxes having gone down to the Championship, Winks has now told the club he wants the chance to continue playing in England’s top competition.
SportsBoom also understand Winks’ potential move away is also fuelled by a falling out with manager Ruud van Nistelrooy earlier this season, in which the Dutchman dropped the midfielder twice from his matchday squad.
Winks was twice omitted from Leicester’s squad after a dispute over his long commute from London to training.
The 29-year-old travels 100miles each day to training, a journey which the manager was not happy about and drew criticism last season.
It is believed Van Nistelrooy wanted Winks to stay in Leicester overnight once a week in order to help his training pattern.
MOVE BACK TO LONDON?
But Winks is understood to have refused, preferring to stay at home with his newborn baby.
The pair were at loggerheads right until the end of the season and Winks didn’t play a single game for the club in the final couple of months of the season.
He played his last game on Sunday 16th March, a 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United.
And that meant the former Tottenham Hotspur star missed Leicester’s last nine Premier League games of the season.
Having been frozen out of the side that ultimately finished 18th in the division and whom were relegated, SportsBoom understands Winks is now ready for a fresh challenge – and that doesn’t involve trying to help the club win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Everton boss David Moyes is re-shaping his squad ahead of next season and believed to be a big fan with a big exodus of players expected, but West Ham, Brentford, and Fulham could be much more attractive options as it would allow Winks to live closer to his family in London.
