Exclusive: Fikayo Tomori Emerges as Liverpool’s Top Centre-Back Target

Liverpool are targeting AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori as a replacement for Ibrahim Konate. Tomori, age 28 and with international ambitions, is valued for his top-level experience and is seen as the long-term solution for the Reds' defense. His potential contract extension will raise his price, but he is keen on a Premier League return for his World Cup aspirations.

Fikayo Tomori has emerged as a target for Liverpool, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The former Chelsea defender has established himself as one of the best centre backs in the world since moving to AC Milan in 2021.

Liverpool are in the market for a centre back with Ibrahima Konaté set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Reds had lined up Marc Guehi as their top target. A deadline day move in famously fell through in the summer and they missed out to rivals Manchester City in the winter window as they decided to wait until season finished when the Crystal Palace captain would have been available for free.

That has left them searching for new targets and Milan ace Tomori fits the bill.

Aged 28 and with ample top-level experience domestically and in European football under his belt, Tomori is eyed as the perfect long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

World Cup Ambition

Tomori moved to Milan for £24million and is on the verge of signing a contract extension at the San Siro, which will see the club’s asking price soar.

But the England international knows his best chance of cementing himself in the national side could be returning to the Premier League.

Speaking about his international ambitions Tomori, capped five times but not since 2023, said: “I spoke to him [Thomas Tuchel] after the international break in November. We've spoken a few times and the message is to keep doing what I'm doing.”

“I know he's watching and keeping an eye because he called up [team-mate] Ruben Loftus-Cheek. That gives me the confidence I can make it.”

"He came to Milan last season and I know he gets our data and sees our clips regularly too. The World Cup is still a dream and I'm working towards that.”
