Liverpool are ready to offload Ibrahima Konate to Bayern Munich when the transfer window opens, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The centre-back is just one of a string of struggling stars at Anfield this season who have failed to reproduce the stellar form which saw them march to the Premier League title last term.
And our sources understand the Reds are willing to let Konate leave as manager Arne Slot looks to freshen up his defence after a harrowing start to the season.
German giants Bayren Munich have expressed an interest in signing the defender, but Bournemouth are also monitoring the situation as they look to strengthen their backline.
Liverpool are languishing in eighth place in the top flight, already 11 points behind leaders Arsenal after 14 games of the new campaign.
Konate’s deal runs out in June next year and we understood the club are keen to cash in on the player while they can, with a younger replacement now a priority.
Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi saw his deadline day move to Anfield thwarted at the last minute, but SportsBoom reports suggest that Liverpool are set to revisit a deal in January, with a price tag of £35–40m being touted as he has less than six months left on his contract.
RESURRECT
But the Reds are doing everything in their power to resurrect the deal, with Guehi believed to be keen for a switch to Slot’s side and the chance to play regular Champions League football.
There are still plenty of hurdles to pass before any deal is struck with Guehi, but letting Konate leave the building would be a big step in helping to facilitate the deal.
The experienced France international has been a shadow of himself so far this season and already made a few high-profile mistakes with Liverpool having surprisingly lost six of their 14 league matches.
The 26-year-old scored for Liverpool in a welcome 5-1 win over Eintruch Franfurt in the Champions League and has been a mainstay of Slot’s stuttering side this season.
But like star striker Mohamed Salah and fellow defender Virgil van Dijk, Konate’s form has been nowhere near as good as last season’s memorable title-winning campaign.
Salah has managed just four goals this term in the league, weigh being last season’s goalscoring exploits, while skipper Van Dijk has been widely-criticised for some of his displays this term.
