Lucas Paqueta has told West Ham bosses he wants to return to Brazil despite interest from the Premier League, SportsBoom can confirm.
The midfielder’s future at the Hammers has been a source of major speculation this season.
But it is now evident he wants to escape the club’s sinking ship mid season after failing to help them allay their relegation fears during the first half of the season.
Our sources understand both Aston Villa, who reignited their summer pursuit of the Brazilian, and Tottenham Hotspur were both keen on a move for the 28-year-old playmaker.
Crystal Palace are also considering a move ahead of a potential summer rebuild.
But sources close to the player have revealed his heart is set on returning to his homeland.
Storied Hammers' Career Set to End
The Hammers’ hierarchy are also understood to be against selling him to another Premier League club this window and would make him wait until the summer for a domestic move.
One of West Ham’s problems is that player power has become prevalent in recent windows with players refusing to play and posting statements on social media to force moves.
And there are fears that Paqueta could do the same to get out of east London.
Flamengo have offered the player a route back to Brazil, but have seen a £30million bid already rejected and is it understood Paqueta’s representatives are pushing for the move behind the scenes.
Earlier this season, Paqueta kissed the badge after scoring a penalty as the Hammers picked up their first points of the season against Nottingham Forest amid rumours of a move to Aston Villa at the end of the summer.
But since that goal, which saw him score in three straight appearances, he has netted just twice and was also sent off against Liverpool for dissent.
Signed for over £50milllion in 2022, Paqueta was part of the club’s famous Conference League triumph in his first season.
