The German giants dazzled to win the German Bundesliga crown last season under his expert guidance.
And Kompany’s on-song side are on course for a second successive league crown having powered nine points clear of arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund after just 15 games of the current season.
Bayern are flying under Kompany at the Allianz Arena, but even through everything is going really well in Germany, the Dutchman craves a return to England, and our sources have learnt he already been sounded out about replacing Pep when the time is right.
Guardiola signed a new two-year contract in November to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium until 2027, but the legendary Spanish coach has hinted that he might leave earlier than expected after winning an incredible 18 major trophies since he took charge of the Citizens.
Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, a good friend of Pep’s, has been heavily-linked as his successor.
INCREDIBLE LEGACY
But our sources have learnt that former Burnley and Anderlecht boss Kompany is the man the club want to carry on his predecessor’s fine legacy.
Kompany would undoubtedly be a huge hit with the club’s loyal fanbase, having been an inspirational leader as captain and having four Premier League titles in his time as a player with City and being engrained in the fabric of the club.
The now 39-year-old also two FA Cups, four EFL Cup crowns and the Community Shield twice during a glorious period of domination under Pep.
Kompany finished with a respectable 45.65 win percentage in his first manager’s job with Anderlecht, before ending with a 42.71 win percentage at Burnley, with whom he secured a memorable promotion back to the Premier League during the 2022-23 Championship season.
But at Bayern he has raised his level to an outstanding 74.07 win percentage having won 60 and drawn 11 of his 81 games in charge so far.
In a recent interview, Manchester City legend Paul Dickov urged the club to cherish Pep Guardiola while they can, doubting anyone could truly replace the Spaniard, who has redefined English football. He also predicted City will lift the Premier League this season as preparations quietly begin for Guardiola’s eventual successor.
