Manchester United will heavily up their pursuits of Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba this summer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The midfielders, who play at Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively, have been long-term targets for the Old Trafford hierarchy.

And our sources have been told the club have made Wharton and Baleba their top targets this summer.

Our sources also understand United had to trim their wage bill before pushing the button on moves for two of the brightest prospects in the Premier League.

Talks over a one-year extension, with a drastically reduced pay packet, were rejected by Casemiro, who has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season.

That has freed up £350,000 a week in wages, which the club are looking to put towards signing two or three players, with Wharton and Babela top of the list.

Casemiro’s representatives are now reportedly pushing for a move to the MLS, with LAFC understood to be leading the race.

United bosses are adamant the structure at Old Trafford needs to change and are understood to be focused on bringing in younger players who have impressed in the Premier League rather than being a destination for marquee signings who are past their peak to earn big wages at the backend of their careers.

New Era

United made a string of good signings last summer with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens joining the club and they have looked a completely different outfit at times this season compared to the last few years.

And bosses at the club are expected to spend big once again come the end of the season as they bid to turn the Red Devils back into contenders after years of miserable failure at Old Trafford.

Earlier this month, SportsBoom exclusively revealed Kobbie Mainoo wanted to reignite his United career and after looking a new player under interim boss Michael Carrick the midfielder is ready to discuss a new deal at the club.
