Manchester United are preparing to offer Casemiro a new one-year contract as they look to resolve the Brazil midfielder’s future at Old Trafford, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The 33 year-old’s current deal is due to expire in June, with United holding an option for a further season under certain conditions.
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022 for around £60 million plus add‑ons, signing a four-year contract that runs until summer 2026 with the possibility of a one-year extension.
Since his arrival he has made 146 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and contributing over a dozen assists.
He has played 97 Premier League games for United with ten league goals to his name.
United’s pursuit of a contract extension comes amid mixed fortunes on the pitch.
After a challenging 2024‑25 season in which he lost his regular starting place and United endured inconsistent form, Casemiro worked his way back into the side this term under former boss Ruben Amorim.
But the midfielder is one of the club’s highest earners earning in the region of £350,000 per week, a wage figure that has been flagged as a key sticking point in negotiations.
WAGE REDUCTION
Our sources stand the Red Devils are seeking a substantial reduction on his current salary should he agree fresh terms, with interim boss Michael Carrick understood to be a big fan of the midfielder.
Contract discussions are ongoing and include the possibility that Casemiro could trigger an automatic one-year extension if he reaches 35 starts this season, though achieving that target would require him to start every remaining match.
If a new deal is not agreed, United may allow Casemiro to leave on a free transfer next summer with the club planning a wider overhaul of their midfield. Targets for 2026 include younger players as United look to refresh the squad.
Interest in Casemiro’s services is believed to extend beyond Manchester, with Saudi Pro League clubs and sides in Brazil reportedly monitoring his situation should he become available.
Links to a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al‑Nassr have circulated in recent windows, though nothing concrete has materialised so far.
For now Casemiro remains part of United’s plans, and club sources say talks are continuing as the January transfer window approaches and the club aim to secure clarity on his future before the summer.
