Manchester United want to loan out starlet Diego León in January to fast track his progress at the club, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The 18-year-old was a surprise summer signing at Old Trafford when he penned a five-year deal, with the option of an extra year, for a fee which could rise to £7million with add-ons.

Red Devils’ boss Ruben Amorim labelled the talented teenager as “one for the future” and the club have been working hard with the player since his arrival in the country.

And our sources have been told United are keen to find him a loan move for the second half of the season as they look to carefully plot his route into first-team action at the club.

There are a number of clubs in South America monitoring his availability for a short-term deal.

The Paraguayan youth international started his career at top flight outfit Cerro Porteño in his homeland.

He has played just 33 senior games in his short career to date, scoring four goals.

The youngster was on the bench for the club's infamous Carabao Cup defeat at Grimsby Town and got his first taste of derby day as he was named in the squad for Saturday's loss at rivals Manchester City.

Huge Potential

A left-wing back, León named Brazilian and Real Madrid great Marcelo as his hero.

Leon has lightning quick pace and there are no doubts about his potential, but can he be a hit at the Theatre of Dreams?

Veteran keeper Tom Heaton said: “He’s been brilliant. The lads have really looked after him. Of course, he’ll gravitate towards the South American lads who have looked after him.”

“He’s quietly gone about his business really well on the grass and then off the grass, he’s been a feature, he’s been in and amongst with the lads, doing well with the language, moving things forward so another top addition to the squad.”

“He’s done fantastically well. He has the potential to get better and better and better. Look forward to seeing him this season and seeing him excel.”
