Mohamed Salah could be heading for an emotional return to Italy after his shock decision to quit Liverpool at the end of the season, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The Egyptian King has confirmed he will leave Anfield after nine successful trophy-filled and goal-laden years with the Reds.

Salah’s next destination is unsure with agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, insisting his client doesn’t know where he will be playing his football next season.

The wing wizard seemed certain to be heading to the Saudi Pro League before agreeing his new two-year contract at Liverpool last summer.

Al Ittihad were favourites for his signature but the political situation in the Middle East has made that move less likely for the time being.

End Of An Era

The 33-year-old three-time PFA player of the year and four-time Premier League golden boot winner is thought to be considering a new career in the MLS with San Diego FC at the front of the queue for his signature.

However, Salah, who will leave as a free agent, may be tempted by another season chasing success in Europe.

Had things turned out differently he was due to spend another 12 months at Liverpool.

So, even though there has been a drop off in his key numbers this term, Salah could still make vital contributions to a top club.

That’s why a return to former club Roma is a potential option, even for one year.

By the end of 2026/2027, the conflict in the Middle East should have been resolved should Salah still fancy one final bumper pay day in the sun.

Salah joined Liverpool from the Serie A side for £34 million in 2017 after previous spells with Basel in Switzerland and Chelsea.

But Roma, who he helped them finish second, are desperate to revive their glory days.

Their last honour was the Europa Conference League in 2022 and it’s 25 years since they won the league title. So, they see the recruitment of Salah as a major statement of intent.
