Monaco are interested in signing Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier at the end of the season, SportsBoom can reveal.
The former England star, who turned down a deal from Monaco during the transfer window, is out of contract at the Magpies at the end of the season.
But our sources understand the Ligue 1 club are still eager to secure the 35-year-old’s signature.
Newcastle are in the process of opening contract talks with the right-back to extend his stay at St James’ Park.
It is also understood clubs in the MLS and Saudi Pro League are keen on signing Trippier and have put out tentative feelers to his agent.
“Kieran is a very, very experienced player and very important for us,” said Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.
“His contract length is something that an incoming sporting director will be on top of. I think these things will be taken care of by the club I’m sure.”
Future in Doubt
Trippier, capped 54 times by England, announced his international retirement following the Euro 2024 campaign. He played at two World Cups and two European Championships.
During his time with England they finished runners-up at the rearranged 2020 Euros and four years later. They also reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
Trippier started his career at Manchester City and spent two loan spells at Barnsley before a loan move to Burnley.
Burnley made that move permanent in 2012 and Trippier impressed during his first season to win the Player of the Year Award.
Trippier made over 150 appearances for the Clarets before a £3.5million to Tottenham Hotspur in 2015 before moving to Atletico Madrid four years later after Spurs’ run to the Champions League final.
Trippier starred in the Atletico’s La Liga triumph in his second season at the club and returned to England with Newcastle in 2022.
