New Norwich City boss Liam Manning is set to raid former club Bristol City for top talent, with forward Anis Mehmeti targeted. The Albanian winger impressed last season and could provide the firepower Norwich need to make a Premier League return. New Norwich City boss Liam Manning is set to raid his former club Bristol City for a star reinforcement ahead of next season, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Manning was unveiled as the Canaries new manager on Monday, replacing temporary boss Jack Wilshere at the helm, after the former Arsenal and England ace had taken charge following former boss Johannes Hoff Thorup’s sacking in April this year.
And having been in charge of the Canaries for less than a week, Manning is already lining up a bid for Bristol City forward Anis Mehmeti.
Albanian international winger Mehmeti dazzled as Robins’ top-scorer last season with 12 goals as Manning’s side finished an impressive sixth position in the second tier.
But frustratingly the south west club missed out on a place in the play-off final after they hammered 6-0 on aggregate across two legs in the play-off semis.
And now Manning is hungry to try and lure Mehmeti, who has one year left on his current contract, to Carrow Road ahead of their challenge to get back in the Premier League.
SUPER SEASON
The former Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur graduate had his best season to date last term as the Robins were one of the Championship’s best teams.
And after three seasons at Ashton Gate, Manning is hoping he can sign the 24-year-old for a second time, especially as he needs all the firepower he can muster given the tough task of trying to get Norwich promoted back to the Premier League next season.
Mehmeti, capped three times by his country, has previously played in the Championship with Wycombe Wanderers and has scored 17 goals in 105 appearances across two and a half seasons for Bristol City.
The Robins are understood to be keen to tie Mehmeti down to a longer contract, reward for his efforts last season.
But the opportunity of teaming up with former boss Manning might prove too tempting to turn down.
