Promoted Premier League trio Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland are all interested in signing free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
And Scottish champions Celtic are also understood to be lining up a bid for the former England international striker.
Experienced centre-forward Calvert-Lewin ended his association with the Toffees on Sunday after nearly a decade with the Merseyside outfit.
And now the Clarets, Whites and Black Cats face a battle for his prized signature, with other Premier League clubs expected to join the race to sign the 28-year-old hitman on a bargain.
Calvert-Lewin played 26 times for Everton last season, but he started only half of those games having returned to fitness following injury issues.
He enjoyed his best Premier League campaign during the 2020-21 season when he scored 16 goals in 33 games and was in Gareth Southgate’s England squad which reached European Championship final that summer.
Capped 11 times by his country, Calvert-Lewin remains hungry to play in the Premier League again, but our sources have learnt he is also open to offers from abroad.
On leaving Everton he said in a statement: "After nine remarkable years I've made the incredibly difficult decision - together with my family - to begin a new chapter in my career," said Calvert-Lewin on Instagram.
"This isn't something I chose lightly. Everton has been my home since I was 19 years old. It's the place that saw potential in me, challenged me to grow and shaped me both as a footballer and as a man."
GRATITUDE
"I want to express my gratitude to all the managers and coaches I've worked with. The choice to move on was not simply about me, it was a decision with my family and we spent a long time considering together," Calvert-Lewin, continued.
"We believe it's the right moment to seek a new challenge and continue growing, but that doesn't lessen the bond I'll always have with Everton.”
Calvert-Lewin started his career with Sheffield United before signing for Everton on a £1.5 million deal in August 2016.
He enjoyed nine seasons in the Premier League with the club and netted 71 goals across 274 appearances.
The Sheffield-born striker played for England at Under-20 and 21 level before earning his first senior cap in October 2020 having scored eight goals in five games in the Premier League, including two hat-tricks.
He has scored four goals in his 11 England games and still harbours an ambition to play for his country again.
