Real Madrid will tell Chelsea they are only prepared to discuss selling Jude Bellingham if Enzo Fernández is included in the deal, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Reports in Spain last night revealed that The Blues, whose owners BlueCo have a history of bankrolling mega money-spinning deals, want to sign the England midfielder before the beginning of next season.
Los Blancos’ president Florentino Perez is reluctant to lose Bellingham, who has become a key figure in the club’s plans to re-establish their dominance over the European and world games.
But, given that he is also a huge and long-term admirer of Fernández, he is set to test Chelsea’s resolve should a bid for Bellingham arrive by insisting it could only be accepted if the Argentine moves in the opposite direction.
That would present Liam Rosenior’s employers with an awkward conundrum, as Fernández has grown into one of the most effective and consistent performers at Stamford Bridge since initially struggling for both form and fitness after leaving Benfica in 2023.
In other news, Madrid are keeping tabs on Real Betis defender Natan and could move for the Brazilian centre-back if the €50m valuation is met.
EXPERIENCE
Now aged 25, he is also one of the most experienced members of a Blues squad built around up-and-coming rather than proven talent.
Three years Fernández’s junior, Bellingham also falls into the latter bracket given his commanding performances since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu and becoming a regular starter in England colours.
He would be expected to command a fee in excess of £120m should he ever leave Madrid; a figure which even surpasses the £106m Chelsea paid to secure Fernandez’s services.
Like Bellingham, Fernandez is in no hurry to seek a transfer elsewhere at this stage of his career. However, given Los Blancos’ stature and profile, he would be tempted to explore the possibility of joining them should the opportunity arise.
Bellingham began his career with Birmingham City before heading to Spain via Borussia Dortmund. Fernández turned professional with River Plate ahead of his switch to Portugal.
