Scott McTominay wants to stay at Napoli amid rumours linking him with a return to the Premier League, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Scotland’s World Cup hero has become an iconic figure since swapping Manchester United for Naples 18 months ago.
The influential midfielder led Antonio Conte’s outfit to the Serie A title last term and scooped the league’s MVP award in the process.
But that may not have been the biggest moment among his own personal achievements after his stunning overhead kick helped Scotland reach a World Cup for the first time in 28 years earlier this week.
McTominay is hot property in world football right now with a host of Premier League sides eager on bringing him back to England.
But our sources have been told the 28-year-old is content in Italy and has no plans to return to the England at this time.
Compatriot David Moyes is reportedly ready to smash Everton's transfer record to be reunited with the player who was at the United academy during his ill-fated spell in charge.
Eddie Howe and Newcastle United also have the star at the top of their priority list and believe he could help bridge the gap between themselves and the top tams in the division.
The Red Devils have also been linked with an extraordinary move to take the player back to Old Trafford after his transformation in a Napoli shirt. However, United’s immediate priority remains Wolverhampton’s João Gomes, though prising the Brazilian midfielder away from Molineux would likely require a substantial bid.
There is also interest from Barcelona, but McTominay is happy in Italy.
Staying Put
Lancaster-born McTominay had been at United for over two decades, starting in the soccer school aged five, before making a £25.7million move to Napoli on the same day Scotland team-mate Billy Gilmour joined the club in 2024.
Speaking about his time in the country, he has previously said: “I saw the passionate fans, I saw the coach, I saw the players and I saw an opportunity. I took it, I didn't look back."
“I love this place, I love the fans, I love my team-mates. Oh my goodness, the tomatoes. I never ate them at home, they're just red water. Here, they actually taste like tomatoes. Now I eat them as a snack. I eat all the vegetables, all of the fruits. It is all so fresh. It's incredible.”
