Sunderland and Crystal Palace are weighing up a January move for Dutch midfielder Quinten Timber, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The sought-after 24-year-old has already reportedly caught the eye of Premier League title-chasers Arsenal.
But our sources have now discovered that the Black Cats, who are plagued with injuries at the moment, and the Eagles have already reached out to Timber’s club Feyenoord about the chances of doing a deal.
Timber, capped eight times by his country, is valued in the region of £25-30million and could present a smart bit of business for both clubs as they look to secure Champions League football next season.
Promoted Sunderland have impressed in their first season back in the top- flight and are flying high in seventh position in the standings after seven wins and seven draws from their opening 18 games.
And Palace are just two places and just three points behind as they look to push into the top five this season despite losing a string of big names in the summer.
Sunderland have identified Sweden international Hugo Larsson as a potential £25million January target as they continue to plan for the second half of the season.
REINFORCEMENTS
Both clubs are hungry for reinforcements to make sure this season’s early success is not wasted, and Timber is a young player who both clubs greatly admire.
This season Timber, the twin brother of Arsenal defender Jurren Timber, has impressed for De Trots van Zuid and improved under manager Robin Van Persie at the De Kuip stadium.
But our sources understand the creative midfielder would welcome the challenge of the Premier League and would make a change after four seasons in the Eredivisie with the club.
This season will be his fifth season in a row in the Dutch top-flight having previously spent a league campaign with former club Utrecht prior to his high-profile move to Feyenoord.
Italian champions Napoli and German Borussia Dortmund have also both been linked with a move for the player.
