Sunderland are preparing a £10million bid for Scottish midfielder Lennon Miller, sought after by Celtic and Rangers. Sunderland are readying a £10million bid to sign Scottish whizkid Lennon Miller, SportsBoom sources can exclusively reveal.
The 18-year-old midfield maestro has been watched by Celtic and Rangers, but the Black Cats are quietly confident they can tempt Miller south of the border.
And they hope the promise of regular Premier League football will be one of the big selling points as last season’s Football Writers’ Association Young Player of the Year award winner looks to take another step in his fledgling career.
Teenager Miller impressed for Motherwell last season in the Scottish Premiership but is out of contract next summer and the club are understandably desperate to keep him at Fir Park.
But Miller, who made his international debut this year for Steve Clarke’s senior side, has made no secret of his ambition to play at the highest level.
Although Celtic and Rangers have quietly explored what it would take to lure the player away from The Steelmen, Miller remains open to offers, and the club is aware they will likely need to cash in on one of their most promising young stars.
CONTRACT OFFER
Motherwell are understood to be lining up a new contract for the former Scotland youth international, who has played for his country at every level from Under-16 to Under-21s before his breakthrough into Clarke’s team.
Miller, the son of former Scotland international Lee Miller, Lennon was called up to the side for the first time in March and made his full international debut in June as a substitute against Iceland and then starting against Liechtenstein.
His current deal expires in May 2026 which gives Motherwell some bargaining power about how much they could sell the player for.
Miller scored four goals and registered eight assists last season as the club finished eighth in the Scottish Premiership and a whopping 43 points behind champions Celtic.
He has had three seasons at Motherwell after playing a handful of games in his first season, before having become a regular in the side over the last two campaigns.
