Under-fire Arne Slot will look to continue his coaching career in England if he is sacked by Liverpool this summer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Despite winning the Premier League title during his first season in charge at Anfield, the Dutchman has failed to replicate that success during his second campaign on Merseyside where he faces an uncertain future following The Reds’ chequered form since August.
Although Slot has made some disparaging remarks about the competition’s emphasis on set-pieces, something made fashionable by Arsenal’s impressive results this term, he is settled in the Premier League and would prefer to pursue an opportunity with one of Liverpool’s top-flight rivals should their hierarchy decide a change at the helm is required.
A number of vacancies are expected to emerge over the summer, with the likes of Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner all set to leave Fulham and Crystal Palace respectively.
The Tottenham Hotspur job is available and Manchester United are still debating whether to give interim boss Michael Carrick the hotseat permanently after a dramatic improvement in results since he took the helm.
Would Be In Demand
However, despite his desire to remain on these shores, Slot would rather work at a club with a realistic chance of regularly being able to compete for trophies after impressing with Feyenoord before leaving the Eredivisie.
Even though their recent form has been a concern, it is by no means certain that The Reds will part company with Slot amid claims, that they are eyeing their former midfielder Xabi Alonso.
However, whatever happens, Slot’s reputation remains high in top-flight boardrooms meaning he is unlikely to be short of offers should he sever his ties with Liverpool.
Slot guided Feyenoord to the title in 2023, before winning the KNVB Cup 12 months later ahead of his decision to succeed Jurgen Klopp. Having also led Liverpool to the championship, he was duly named Premier League Manager of the Year.
He has also coached Cambur and AZ Alkmaar, returning a win percentage of over 50 at all of his four professional clubs.
