Amid growing speculation over his future, Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has addressed transfer rumours linking him with a summer move away from French side FC Nantes, with Premier League outfit Everton reportedly leading the chase for his signature.
A Star in demand
Moses Simon has long been a player admired for his pace, directness, and relentless work ethic; traits that have not gone unnoticed in Europe. Now, with the summer transfer window fast approaching, the Nigerian international is once again in the spotlight.
Reports in France and England have surfaced linking the 28-year-old to Premier League side Everton, as well as several clubs in Spain and Germany.
Despite FC Nantes’ turbulent season in Ligue 1, Simon has remained one of their most consistent performers, contributing goals and assists while maintaining a leadership presence on and off the pitch.
His current contract runs until June 2026, but interest from top-tier clubs could prompt a pivotal decision in the coming weeks.
Simon breaks silence on transfer rumours
Speaking exclusively to SportsBoom, Moses Simon acknowledged the swirling speculation but maintained a calm and grounded stance about his next move.
“Yes, I’ve heard about the interest, and I know my agent is in contact with some clubs,” Simon confirmed.
“Right now, I’m still a Nantes player. I’ve always given my best for this club, and I respect my contract. But of course, every player wants to play at the highest level.”
On the potential of a move to England, the Nigerian star was open yet measured.
“The Premier League is one of the best in the world. If the right offer comes, and it’s good for me and my family, then why not? But I’m not desperate. I have peace here in France. It has to be the right project.”
Everton eye a dynamic reinforcement
Everton, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, are believed to be targeting players with proven experience and versatility. Simon ticks both boxes, having impressed in France since arriving in 2020, and with over 60 caps for the Super Eagles under his belt.
The Toffees have reportedly identified Simon as a cost-effective solution on the flanks, especially with potential summer departures looming in their squad. His ability to play on either wing, track back defensively, and unlock tight games makes him a valuable asset.
Sources close to the deal suggest a fee in the region of €8–10 million could tempt Nantes, who may be open to a sale to fund their rebuild.
Nantes’ position: To sell or extend?
Internally, FC Nantes are yet to decide definitively on Simon’s future. Club officials are understood to be considering a contract extension offer, while also fielding inquiries from abroad. With two years left on his current deal, this summer presents a prime opportunity to cash in; especially if the player expresses a desire to move.
“Whatever happens, I will always be grateful to Nantes,” Simon added.
“They gave me a home and believed in me. But in football, change can be part of growth.”
Eyes on 2026 and beyond
As the Super Eagles gear up for the AFCON qualifiers and the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, regular top-flight football will be critical for Simon. A move to a more competitive league could sharpen his form heading into a vital period for Nigeria’s national team.
“I want to keep improving. Whether it’s in France, England, or elsewhere, my focus is to be at my best for club and country,” Simon concluded.
While no formal bid has yet been confirmed by Nantes or Everton, discussions behind the scenes are intensifying. With the transfer window opening in a matter of weeks, all eyes will be on Moses Simon; one of Nigeria’s brightest attacking sparks, to see where his next chapter will be written.
For now, the winger remains grounded, but open. And as the Premier League beckons, Simon’s name could soon be lighting up a new stage.
